TV in 2008 Montanas

I discovered yesterday the the TV in both the living room and bedroom both pick up digital off the air broadcast stations with an exceptional picture . This is not even mentioned in any of the manuals.

Please tell me more about what is going on. I am electronically challenged.

The other day after I brought the unit home I was setting up the TV and went thru the auto channel set up, while I was watching it find channels it got all the way up to 16 channels and stopped. I knew I did not have that many over the air channels for the antenna to pick up. So when I started going thru the channels I discovered that half of them where the Hi Def equilvilent channels of the normal analog channels. What this means is cristal clear hi def channels that both TV's will pick up.
