cell/air card wireless amplifiers

looking to install a wireless dual band amp in the Monty (3400rl). Looking for input on a good cost effective system/supplier and install ideas.

We are moving into the Monty fulltime soon and where we spend the summer we have very weak cell signal (at&t) and would like a stronger air card signal (verizon). The campground is in a small valley and this seems to be the cause of the weak signal, so an amplifier should help.

thanks,
Phil

May be off the mark a little, but the web site is worth looking at. See my post "Cell Phone Repeater" on 10/27/08.

Ordered a 3 watt amp today from 3gstore.com. richfaa gave me a good report on it and EVDO Alex recommended it so I bought it. Should be here Monday and will report on it after we get it plugged in. We are not getting good reception here and it is very slow. Hopefully this will change with the Amp.

Here in Davenport, Fl we are in a fringe area for Verizon RevA. We have the USB 727 aircard and the Cradle point 1000 router. In a good signal area we can easily see 1.0/1.2MB. We have the wilson trucker antenna on a pole attached to our ladder that stands @ 8 feet off the roof or about 20 feet off the ground. Without the 3 w amp that Phil mentions we can see @ 300 kbps Down..With the 3 w amp we see 600/700 KBPS down about double the speed. If we take the pc a couple of miles up the road in the direction of the verizon tower we can see a steady 1.2 MG.

As we speak our download speed is 856 KPS with the 3 W amp. It will vary some with weather conditions.

The amp is not inexpensive but a good value if you are in a low signal area. If you are in a low signal area I would find out what tower you are looking at then drive in that direction(if you can) and see how far you need to go before the signal increases...I mean you can be just to far away.. Also remember to "verify" your aircard (OUT OF THE ROUTER) using the VZacess program when you change location for the best signal.

Ditto on richfaa's results. This summer, while in a remote part of New Mexico, we had no to very low cell phone and air card reception. Added the RV external antenna, mounted to the top of the ladder, and a 3 watt Wilson Amp. This gave us almost DSL like speeds. We were lucky and the cord to the aircard also worked on our Verizion phones so we had phone service when not on the internet. Like Phil we went through 3gstore.com. They were very knowledgeable and helpful.

Phil did you ever resolve updating your aircard via the laptop?

Don, never did, got too many suggestions on how to do it that I don't know where to go.

We did get our 3 watt amp from 3Gstore and hooked it up. Although I do not have any numbers to report, I can say that the difference is definitely noticeable and so far we are happy campers again......

Hi Phil,

Disregard the PM I sent earlier this evening. I guess I'll try the Verizon store until I get my laptop back.

Edit: I went to the Verizon store tonight. They would not do the update. I didn't push it.
