MONUMENT VALLEY PARK HELP

We will be leaving from Page AZ heading towards home. We want to stop & see Monument Valley. We have been advised to not take our Monty's into the park.
Can I have some suggestions as to where to RV for a night or two & just make day trips to the valley.

You cant take it into the park. But you can set them at the visitor center. Great campground just outside monument valley. Gouldings. You will recognize it from quite a few john wayne westerns and others. Worth the visit, and the campground also.

Gouldings is the place to stay. We also ate at the Hotel restaurant--good food. When you see the roads in Monument Valley--I suggest taking a guided tour. The tour guides know the sites and can explain it. Have a great time!

Ditto on Gouldings. Make sure you go see the nightly showing of She Wore a Yellow a Ribbon at their museum.

There are pros and cons to Gouldings and tours. Trying to make this short (HA HA, I know you are all giggling at that)

Gouldings, full hook up sites, gorgeous campground, looking at the red surrounding you is special. It is a VERY busy campground. Call for reservations ASAP.

There is boondock camping JUST inside the Valley. Sites looked nice, although we did nothing more than drive by them. 8.1 Charlie has stayed there. No hookups, so, if hot??? Depends on your tolerances.

Actual visiting the Valley, by guided tour or self drive. Benefits to both.

Guided tour, they will take you places you are not allowed in your private vehicle. We took the Gouldings tour 4 years ago and We were sooo glad we did. Worth every penny!

This year, just weeks ago, we decided to drive the Valley in our own truck. It was so worth it. It was a totally different experience. We did, by the way, use 4 wheel drive getting up some of the hills, on the roads, because they have very soft sand that Jolly the truck slipped in.

So, if you can, do both, take a tour AND drive it yourself!

On my blog, Reflections (link at the bottom of my sig line here on MOC) there is a search box. Click to Reflections, go to top left corner, type in Monument Valley. Lots of photos from both years visits to the area, even tho I have not really done a lot with this years 600 plus photos!

Enjoy, it is one of the most awesome places!

We stayed at Goulding's last week and then went to the park and signed up for a tour. We drove to Monument Valley and there is a small building in the parking lot before you get to the main building. Like a taxi stand, they rotate through the tour operators. Had a great tour, there was just the 3 in my party on the tour and we were in a closed Suburban. Since the weather was cool and windy, so we were glad not to be out in an open vehicle. Our guide was very nice and knowledgeable. You can make a reservation with a specific company if you would like.

You definitely should not attempt to drive through the park pulling a trailer, the road is unpaved, mostly sand, and very bumpy.
