Tire advice needed...long trip planned.

Looking for some good advice if i should buy new tires now or can wait until next year.
Just bought a 2016 3790RD Montana it came with the trailer king tires we have taken 5 trips, the tires have about 1300 miles
we will be taking a 3000 mile vacation in late sept from Oregon to Moab-Grand canyon-Zion and home.
i planned on buying new tires next year.
figured with all the experience on this site it would not hurt to ask

Sailuns S637....cant seem to find them in Oregon...good prices

Maxxis 8008.....can get them in Oregon....good price

Goodyear G614....they are everywere...best of the best...more exp...rebate going on until july 31

i know some will say depends on what you want to spend...would like to go with the sailuns just cant find them in Oregon

i like the idea of 110 psi vs the 80 psi on the maxxis.

First and foremost, don't wait. As for which tire, we ordered ours with the G614's. Many good reports on the Sailun's. You could order them online. While you are at it, don't forget TPMS. One of the things about RVing is there is no shortage of things to spend money on.

I see the phrase "china bomb" often but I never really see the cause of why tires actually blow out. I have the same tires on my 2015 3790RD (we love the floor plan) as you do on your 2016. I did a lot of research but never found anything negative with the Road Kings. I'm going to keep running on them and here is why.

I have taken the time to level out the 3790 when I tow so the weight is shared between the axles. I installed Truck Systems TPMS and monitor the pressure and temperature of each tire. I have weighed the trailer/truck combo and clearly see the trailer axles are sharing just under 11,000 pounds of weight, well under their rating.

I'm crossing my fingers hoping I am not making a mistake.

Only experience I have is the original Carlyle's (BOOM!) and the G614s I replaced them with (AHHHH!). Nothing gives me more piece of mind than the G614s. Just get them off after 5 years, no matter how many miles! (BOOM again!)

If you keep the OEM tires, don't hit the road without a good tire pressure monitor. Anyone who has read my posts already knows I'm a 614 fan.

Go check out any of the RV Forums, there are many folks who had the same opinion as you, until their summer plans were ruined when China Bombs blew and did thousands of dollars damage to their RV. Last summer our friends went thru all four tires during our Canadian Maritime trip. Luckily they caught three before exploding, the fourth totally blew apart, but they we very lucky and only lost a small piece for fender skirt.

I would not wait until next year. Your OEM tires will give you problems. That might be in the next 50 miles it might be 20000 miles. When they do they could do thousands of dollars in damage. If you can't find the S627s get the G614. At any rate don't get a standard ST tire they are all built too light to be safe on your camper.

Agree, don't wait. It is definitely a roll of the dice. You may make it ok, and you may not. I decided to wait a year before replacing and it almost cost me. Proper inflation, keeping speeds under 65, balancing the weight evenly is all good, but in the end may make no difference with these inferior tires. AND, I probably had fewer than 2000 miles on those Marathons. My Montana is one of the heavier ones, but as a weekend warrior, we travel light. Based on my experience and that of many others, I'd replace them. The peace of mind is priceless. I also suggest a tpms system, whether you make the change or not.

I assume these would be no problem on my trailer 85 vs 80 and the 110 PSI vs 80 psi
I have heard that the wheels On The Montanas arer 110 PSI I cannot find any identifying marks to confirm that

On my '10, the PSI rating is stamped on the back side of the rim.
The 85's are all that is available in the G614. That's what we are using without problems. I'm not sure about the Sailuns.

While my local Les Schwab stocks Sailuns, and the Sailun people say Les carrys them, the Les web site doesn't know a thing. You might call your local store and ask. In the mean time Simple Tire has them in stock for $124 plus tax plus shipping ($15-$20 to my area - Northern Cali).

I know you can take them to Les (or have them delivered there) and he will install them for you at a reasonable charge.

All the new Montanas, including the 2016 3790RD come with 110 PSI rated rims. You could have ordered Goodyear G614a on your 3790RD and they would have come on the same rims you have the Trailer Kings on. But to verify, look on the back side of the rim. You should see an embossed weight value of ~3750 lbs. which is equivalent to a 110 PSI rating.

Whether you upgrade to G614s or the Sailun 637 you will be much better off. As I said before (on FB?) it is not a matter of "IF" but rather "WHEN" the Trailer Kings will fail.

If it helps you, the rims on my 2015 3790RD are embossed 110PSI on the backside of the spokes.

Just pulled the trigger and bought Sailuns from Les Schawb they said they have been selling them for about 2-3 months and are a VERY popular tire

any favorites on a TPMS??? i have been looking at the TST 507....

I have the TST 507 and find that mine are right on the pressure with my 2 tire gauges or at least within +/- 1psi.

Good call on buying the tires AND choosing the Sailuns. I have had mine on now for 7 months and all I can say is PEACE OF MIND! While I still watch the TPMS, I have not worried like I did with the stock tires.

Today's run was 260 miles in +90 degree weather. I was running pretty fast on I-90 (70 to 75 MPH) and the Sailuns did great. I think I will have a long term relationship with Sailun #128521;

I have the TST 507. I don't know anything about the others. Mine reads about 4 pounds light but that is no problem. Just make a mental adjustment.

I have the TST 507 also. installed a repeater because of infrequent loss of signal. I like the flow through sensors. Customer service is great from TST...

Just picked up the tires today ...WOW they sure feel and look heavy duty so much different then the trailer kings.

also ordered the the TST507 ....

now i just need some more vacation time
