Bug Screen Springs

Hello. I got tired of dealing with the unreliable springs to hold on the bug screens so i used a few cotter pins and small washers now i do not have to worry about the springs failing and losing the screens on the side of the road and it also makes it harder for some one to take them also.

Great idea. Those springs are a pain in the well you know. Do you know by chance how long the cotter pins you used. I'm guessing you had to take the doors off to install the pins correct. Thanks Chuck.

I used 2" cotter pins through little washers and Yes had to remove the furnace cover, easy to do and i did some cleaning in there while it was off.

Are your screens something you added to your rig? Mine does not have them.

Good mod, but knock on wood, I've never lost a spring in 20+ years of owning an RV.

Zack ... yes they are aftermarket. You can get them at any RV supply house and some Wally Worlds carry them. They come either round or square depending on your HWH style.

Eagleback, I wish I had seen your idea 8 months ago. I have the bug issue in Texas badly - wasp, dirt daubers, etc. I took a different tack to get around the clumsy springs supplied with the screens. I could never feel that they were securely attached and didn't want them to drop off and end up in someones windshield. Your idea would have saved me some coin. I went the stainless screw and double nut idea semi permanently attaching the screens to the covers - I have to remove the covers to service the water heater and furnace anyway. I put one over the battery vent also but most likely not needed. Just did not want to get surprised like on our boat - see pix of nest in boat storage.

Look at the one just sitting on top and waiting to wreck your day. still your idea works nicely.

Pricing pretty good at AMZN. Look for the Camco 42146 flying insect screen wh600 and the ABN RV furnace/water heater/battery vent cover 4.5x4.5x1.3 inch camper trailer bug insect screen.
