DVD player and TV?

Does the TV send surround sound to the speakers thru the DVD or does just the DVD send sound to the speakers when you watch a movie or play music? I don't think the TV sends out to surround speakers.....

The surround sound works with our TV when we watch over the air channels. It also works for the radio. When we watch a movie with the DVD player, the sound comes through the surround sound via the TV. This is how it works in our Montana.

MY Sony DVD/Blu ray player sends Surround Sound to my remote speakers and Sound Bar and Subwoofer and has to be set to DEMO 5 on the sound mode button on the DVD remote to get Surround for the TV when on Satellite, cable etc.., , When My DVD/Blu Ray is turned OFF ONLY the TV itself has sound,When i had my Samsung system on my 2012 it was similar

I have my TV speakers turned off and everything goes through the DVD player. If the signal has surround, you get surround. A movie will always have surround.

This all depends upon what generation your TV, DVD player and sound system are. On ours, the DVD player was part of the sound system and antenna or cable must be sent through it in order to get the surround sound to work when stock (ours wasn't hooked up that way from the factory). Many others are like this. Since we've a 42" TV, I wanted a Blu-ray player, and the integrated DVD one was getting flaky anyway. I also added a Dish unit, but wanted to keep antenna capability. I ended up routing everything into the TVs hdmi ports and took the sound out of the TV and back into the sound system leaving the integrated DVD player unhooked. (Had to add a fiber to coax adapter.) Now we can watch anything and have sound either from the TV or the surround sound system.

Each system will be different though, and you need to think about them just as if they were in a sticks & bricks house. What Keystone does with antenna cabling can complicate things, but it's still all the same. It might help to draw out on paper what you want in a block diagram, then check to see if you've got all the ports/connections you need before starting to connect or reconnect things.

Ours is still factory and the TV speakers work for TV and the surround sound works with the DVD player. Trying to get under there and figure it out was enough of a problem getting Dish hooked up right for me.

If its a Jensen DVD all in one. throw it away and buy a good one. I have had 2 of them and both broke, but when they worked it went though the speakers.
