F 350 tv

I’ve got a 2011 f350 super duty 6.7 diesel srw. Left Minnesota for Texas today. 12 degrees when we left. All lights and trailer brakes are working. About 60 miles in I get the trailer disconnected warning light (that one will get your attention) stopped immediately and found nothing’s amiss. Hit ok on the warning light and it went out, only to come back on ever 20 to30 minutes. Has anyone encountered this problem? Don’t know if it’s a tv problem or 5er problem. 5er is a 2010 3400rl Montana.
Thanks in advance.

It could be a number of things. The plug or the connector could be a problem. Wires could be loose in the junction box in the pin box. Since your rig has had some use it could also be the wiring going to the brakes. Over the years the rough axles can rub the insulation off.

Mine ended up being the brake wires wrap around the inside of the brake drum. Could be a brake wire shorting out.

Only problem like that I've ever had was corrosion in the whatever it's called plug from the trailer to the truck. Just wiggle it around, pull it off & put it on a few times and it's always good to go.

You might give contact cleaner a try. Spray the connector contacts and insert and remove the connector several times to help clean off any thing that might be there.

It appears that my 2012 Ford has a feature that tracks the mileage towing. I can't find how to set this and the literature I have on this used truck does not cover this. Ant ideas?

There is a place in the information center. You need to scroll through the menus and you will find it. It may be in the truck apps. You can name your trailer there and it will track the miles. You can add more than one trailer.

It is in the "Truck Apps" section. Select it and then right arrow two time to find it. It triggers on when there is a 7 pin connection with trailer brakes. If you have multiple trailers you can name each of them and track the mileage separately, but you have to switch the selection when you change the one you are using.

On all connections on the outside of the RV or TV, I use dialytic grease. It is a grease used for any electrical plug type connection. Just coat the plug and receptical metal pieces and it will take care of all contacts. Find at any auto store! If that is your problem?

The disconnected warning has come up twice on my '11. The first time was when the pigtail came loose in the TV bed. The second time was a puzzle until I checked the terminal box in the pin box. One of the wire nuts had fallen off from poor factory assembly. If you are plugging the pigtail in at the bumper, there may be rnough contact corrosion to require manual clean up with some sand paper .
