Water Pump Access 2980RL
This is my first ever post, so please be gentle!
In February we moved up to a 2005 2980RL from our former Dutchmen 30RL-H5. Quite a jump in quality. We are very pleased so far.
my question relates to access to the water pump for winterizing. Our unit has a winterization kit installed but the only access to the pump is through either a vent hole near floor level next to the door or a similar vent hole on the back side of the cabinet about 12 inches from the floor. Neither access hole is close to the pump which is in a corner next to the angled wall of the cabinet. Has anyone found an easier way to access the pump? I thought about adding a door to the angled wall. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Not ready to winterize yet but I want to be ready when the time comes.

I can't help you with your question but wanted to welcome you aboard. That's a beautiful model you chose. We had it's predecessor, a 2001 2880RL, but our water pump was under the table between the two recliners. I know it's moved now so I can't help you.
This is a very "gentle" group. There are no dumb questions here. So feel free to ask away. Enjoy that new Montana!

I also have a 2005 2980RL ... water pump same location. I removed the wooden grill next to the steps, and took the 4 mounting screws out of the rubber mounted pump feet ... simply moved the pump closer to the wood grill and reinstalled the screws. Don't crank the screws way down as you'll be happier with the sound deadening. There is enough slack in the water lines to improve the location several inches. An added benefit was the lines no longer rest on the cabinent walls making the pump operation even noiser. I don't think they planned the location very well from the start, but saw no need in creating another access door.

I have a 2980RL also and have found the same problem with the pump access. It definitely was not thought out when installed. I have to remove the side panel in the cabinet under the sink to gain access to the pump. I have been thinking about adding a door to the angled part of the counter also.
Like the idea of moving the pump closer to the side vent grill. Will have to look into that, good idea!

dkndk,
Isn't the 2980RL a great floorplan? Depending on when yours was made, there may be different locations for the water pump. Ours was made in late Nov '04 and the water pump is located under the shower, you have to remove the back wall of the curb side basement to get to it. It's close to the furnace. I was told that the access for winterizing ours was behind the back basement wall on the street side. We live in So. Calif. so we never have to winterize, and when we move to Prescott AZ in 1-1/2 years, we'll be building an insulated RV barn for Monty. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the quick responses. I didn't think about the option of moving the pump, I'm sure it will be easier than adding a door. I will look into that this weekend. These forums are a great resource for information. Thanks again.
