OK so here are my weights

Camper GVWR 13960

Hooked up Gross 21840

Camper hooked to pickup but pickup off scale 11280

Pickup only 7760

Guess that makes my camper just setting & not hooked up 14080

We ae not loaded up yet, still have clothes, fridge to fill and other misc items to pack.
Is this about average do you think?

I would say you have a problem if your trailer is overweight and you don't have it loaded yet. Is there anything you can take out? Ours has a GVWR close to yours and even with us fulltiming in it we are not overweight

Something does not sound right here, I assume you are leaving out the pin weight portion of the calculation? The 14080 will be with the front legs supporting the portion that would show as your pin weight. Weight on the axles would be the 11280 and your pin weight would be 2800. Doesn't this leave 2680 max to put in the camper which would sound reasonable based on the posted specs for this model and year. Am I completely out in left field here which has been known to happen many times before?

Don't you need the weight of the pickup with the RV hooked up to complete your calculations?
I assume the pickup weight of 7760 was without the RV hooked up.

The fact remains that at 14080 lbs. the trailer is over weight with no clothes or food

The weight of pickup and RV together is 21840.

The RV hooked up to the pickup and pickup wheels off the scale weighed 11280 weighing only camper hooked up. pickup hitch obsorbing the rest of the weight.

Guess if I subtract pck weight from Grose weight of 21840 that leaves 14080.

Well it came loaded with W/D, 4 slide awnings, 2nd AC, Onan 5500 generator and slide out storage tray.
Did take out the washer/dryer,3 years ago. might do away with slide out storage tray in the cargo bay.
Other than that there is nothing else to take out.

The pin weight on our 06 3400 weighed by RVSEF at the fall rally was 2750lbs and we were long timers loaded heavy. 3520 for your 05 3400 would be very heavy...very heavy... I am with bingo and his calculations.

With the weights that I gave and if I figured right that is what I come up with. It does seem alot sitting on the hitch, not sure what else I can do to lighten it up some. I'm sure the generator is at leas 250 pounds.

OK, I have to ask: Is the weight you list for the TV an actual scale weight with everything in the TV ready to tow, or is it just the Mfr dry weight?? That would explain a lot. I do know that our SOB came from the Factory close to 1500 Lbs over the brochure dry weight, so when loaded for long term travel we're at of just over the gross, but still under on the axles and tires, extra weight is in the TV as pin weight, like 3900 Lbs worth.

The 13960 is suppose to be the total weight loaded and that is the number on the placard.
The 11280 is the weight of the camper setting on the scale hooked to the pickup but pickup is off the scale only trailer on the scale. Might have to go back and re-weigh but un-hook pickup leaving camper on the scale to see what it weighs by itself.
No the camper is not loaded other than pots and pans etc and some food.
We haven't had any problems over the past years after several trips to AZ, Neb, OR, Calif. all seperate trips from MT.
I just got curious as to the weights so I posted them here to see how they rate. Maybe I'm doing something wrong and not weighing the rig right.

I would suggest these steps: (These I do at WA State weigh stations that are closed)

1. Weigh pickup with rv hooked up. ( I weigh front axel, both axels, then rear axel of truck)

2. Weigh rv hooked to pickup. ( I weigh front axel, both axels, then rear axel of rv)

3. Weigh pickup without rv hooked up (unhook rv and reweigh the pickup, front, both, then the rear axel of truck)

With this info you should be able to arrive at the needed info.

Our Monty has an actual dry weight posted that is not from a brochure. This makes me interested in weighing her to find out just how much stuff including LP gas and fresh water we are trucking around. A side note about weights that I learned at the Fall Rally in Goshen this year was that Keystone weighs the rigs brought in for repairs in reguards to frame issues.

Allen, you listed weight of 21,840 for truck and trailer. Did you weigh them together on the scale of is this something you figured? I usually find a Cat scale, they have multiple platforms which allows me place trucks front axle on one, rear on another and the trailer axles on another.

They were weighed together.
I weighed the rig with all truck and trailer axels on scale (which I did 21840) and then with front and rear truck axels off scale leaving only trailer axels on scale (11280)
When I get the chance I'm going to weigh the 5er by itself, no truck.
