AC draining on your awning ? easy fix !
Hi, all.
Some folks and us have a problem with the water from the AC evaporator running over the roof and down the awning. Needless to say, it causes a lot of streaking, mildew and - on top of that, we get rained on when passing under the awning on a humid day.
The fix was easier than I first thought.
Using the natural slope, I cleaned an area to be used for draining with spray soap and Windex so as to route the water to a good place to drain which on our coach is between the awning and rear window. Then I ran two beads of silicone caulk down that slope from the AC to the side forming a small canal. At the side I caulked in a small piece of white plastic to form a drip ledge.
After letting it all cure out for a few hours I turned on the AC and - hurray - the water followed the canal and dripped off the plastic ledge straight to the ground as I had hoped.
To top it off, it's hardly noticable from below. To re-route the water took only about 45 min.
(why didn't I think of this sooner??)
