Surge protection for your RV

It looks like surge protection is a good idea. So then, what is a good and reliable surge protection unit for 50 amp service? I am probably looking for a portable unit

Double post. I don't know how to add to previous. Get the unit that is more than just a surge protector. Protects from a lot more problems.

X4 on Progressive. We had the SSP50 portable, which, besides surge protection, also shows reverse polarity, and open neutral and ground conditions, but that's all. After experiencing a low voltage condition due to a tree falling through the utility high voltage line, and losing both our satellite boxes, I installed the hard wired EMS-HW50C, which will turn off the power before there is damage. The EMS-PT50X portable unit will give you the same protection as the hardwired version, except you lose the ability to monitor your voltage and current while inside your RV. The other down side is the portable unit is more expensive, but that is offset by the expense of installing the hardwired unit.

We had Progressive hard wired into our 2 Montana's, but we were full timing then. Now we are in a MH part time so we are utilizing the portable unit.

We have the Progressive EMS, not just a surge protector. Three times now it's warned us of bad wiring in a pedestal and save our electronics and/or worse.

I like the portable unit. I can switch between my MH and the High County.

definitely Progressive ! The POS that Camping World sells is garbage. When ours failed the company's response was ,"Oh yes that happens you will need to buy a new one". It was less than 3 years old and had been used for maybe 8-10 weeks total. We were at Grizzley and after the lack of interest and concern when I called the manf, I called Progressive mainly because of the suggestions from this forem. Great unit!

Here I am, a year and 3/4 later, as a brand new Monty owner (as of yesterday.) This thread has been extremely helpful, and I just ordered the Progressive EMS-PT50 on Amazon. I have had RVs for almost 30 years, and never had a problem, but the more I pay for the RV, the more I need to protect it. Just like a fire extinguisher - you hope you never need it, but when you do, you are glad you have it!
Thank you to all who posted and replied to the OP.

We have this one and we lost power twice while camping and no issues when it kicked back on:
