Storage under bed

we have the king size bed and have added the 3" memory foam pad to make it comfortable. But I'm guessing that's why lifting the bed up to get to the storage bin is so hard. The shocks they attached don't seem to do anything. So its a 2 person operation to get anything out of there.

Anyone have the perfect solution? I saw a MH with an electric lift for the bed, but that might be expensive.

Stronger shocks will work but they are tricky to install. A thinking outside of the box solution would be to add cabinet doors beneath for access without having to lift the bed. Some simple framing would be required but it should be a simple job.

Yep for the few times we have to lift the bed we have the same "problem" but no big deal, my wife said that is what I'm for I am her new heavy duty Shock now

I took a piece of 3/4 inch dowel and put a crutch tip on both ends, and use it as a prop stick to hold the bed up. When done, just lay it inside before letting the bed down.

The dowel rod looks like the easiest solution. We have the king bed with memory foam topper as well. I installed heavier duty shocks(2), it was easy to do. They're not cheap so be sure to get the right weight rating if you go that route. I think mine are 100 lbs(the model# SE200P-100 Signature Series Gas Spring leads me to believe they're 100#'s), should probably have gone with the next heavier shock. It holds the bed up fine until you add the heated mattress cover, blanket and comforter. It holds it but just barely. I also added a handle on the bottom of the plywood to give me a grip to lift it up with.

We used an old telescoping mop handle that I adjusted to perfect height and a screw to hold in place patent pending

Replacing the shocks is a simple job. Slide the clips and pull off the shocks. The ball will fit the new ones.

I replaced the original equipment shocks that didn't work once a foam pad was used with the original king mattress. The company selling the shocks were mentioned in Trailer Life magazine several months ago and they work well with king bed with foam pad on top. The company has good customer support and will help you if you have problems installing. The name on the shocks is "signature" but don't think that is the company name.I believe Trailer Life has a video on installation but is for lighter shocks being installed on a smaller camper that didn't have any to start with. I would call the company (once you research past articles and issues of the magazine to find their name)and tell them your present setup and mattress (mention pads you have added)and they will recommend the correct shocks. The destructions on how to install caused me problems and called them and they said just "popout" the lighter ones and snap in theirs and try that first. It worked. No need for brooms or such. Now, this worked for me but your results may vary!

I simply fold the foam topper in half. That allows easy lifting of the bed and it stays up. (So far) I have considered the dowel also.

I have the 2020 Montana 3761FL arriving soon, i hope. I was wonder if someone could give me the dimensions of the storage area under the bed. We're planing to live in the RV for a couple years and we're trying to determine what we can take with us. Also, I looking a adding a cargo carriers to the receiver hitch on back of the RV. I was wondering if anyone have any bad experiences with that from a weight and control prospective. The carrier is rated for 500 pounds but I have no intension of have that much weight back there. The heaviest might be a champion 7500 watts generator should I decide to get a generator. All thoughts are helpful and appreciated. This is our first RV Darrel

Darrel, if your unit is like mine, the cargo "hitch" is only rated at 300 lbs. Kinda useless with that little weight.
I have a pull out garage in our 3791RD and putting a cargo carrier on the back would block access to the garage so I have never used it. I have been considering putting a rack to hold kayaks vertically, just haven't found one I like yet.

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I agree, 300 lbs doesn’t real give you much room to work. I may to have to rethink my use of the hitch or see what can be done, if anything, to enhance the hitch.
