cracked shower base

So the old saying is "sometimes you eats the bear, sometime the bear eats you". Well, I look down at my feet as I am standing in the shower and see this area about three inches long and one and a half tall that looks like a mountain range or a "w" if you focus on the part that is open by about 1/16 to 1/8". Dang! Double dang!! Really wanted to replace my shower pan...not too much. So I got out my slow cure epoxy...mixed up some...put a glove on one hand, and went to work getting a bigger area coated. Got epoxy on the other hand without the glove...law of averages says this is going to happen...it did. Now it is wait time for the 30 minute stuff to set up enough for me to put some white gorilla tape over it. If I had some dicor lap sealant, I would coat the epoxy with that instead. Since this is good epoxy, it should seal and keep the crack from expanding until I can find out what needs to be ordered and get it shipped to me in florida without it getting damaged or should I say get one that arrives undamaged? Now, I feel better. John

Here's hoping that you drilled a small hole at each end of the crack.

Dave beat me to it about the small whole at each end of the crack. If not that crack will continue to run. The hole stops that from happening. Keep us informed on what your results are!

The way my cracks are, I would have had 7 or 8 holes at least since it was doing a zig-zag. Based on the flex in the bottom near the seat due to no setting material under the base in that area, more cracks are going to happen. The whole shower has to come out to replace the base, but that allows me to check behind the walls. You can bet that the new gets set in expanding foam. John
