Black and Gray Tank Valve Lubrication Fluids

On our 2015 we have had it out about 5 to 6 time so far. During the warranty period I told my dealer at least twice that the cable controls to both black and gray are very difficult to operate. Never had any satisfaction, valves still very difficult. I even had some sizable leakage when you take the pipe cap off. Finally on this last trip, the black valve for sure failed. Anyway they had it in the shop this week and finally dropped the belly and went through both black and gray valves and I hope the cables. I think the manager said they also replaced the valve seals or what ever they are. My question is about the valve lubrication fluids that I think Thedford makes to help with valve movement. Has anyone used this tank additive on their tanks, do you think I helps? Any issues with it messing up the tank sensors? Any ideas or comments please.

There have been a number of issues with the valve seals reported recently.

Have you ever used that valve lube additive for easier valve actiln?

Have tried several with not much change. Dumping a big bottle of veggie oil down the toilet works better I thought. Remember that unless you are nose high, there will be remains left in the pipes...even after you think everything has drained. If you still have working tank readings with the stock monitor, it is a miracle fit for the books. John

The only tank that has a tight valve is our black tank, and along with the treatment, I use a cap full of Calgon liquid and 4 ounces of the Thetford valve lube, each time I drain the tank, and it seems to be working OK. As time goes by, It does seem like the valve is operating a little easier, but that is after several years full time. As far as the sensors go, they usually do not work after a couple weeks of use.

Problem is more likely the cable pulls rather than the valves. They are longer than necessary and get looped up in the belly making them hard to operate. The cables also can corrode.

I had the same problem with Black tank valve. Paid $100 for a dealer to check it once, and no improvement. So, I decided to do check and fix the problem myself after reading some great info on this forum back around June.

First, the job is not that hard (but easier if not 6'3"/240 lbs ).
After dropping the belly and removing the black tank valve I found the gasket was deformed and forced into the groove keeping the valve from closing all the way. I replaced the gaskets and lubricated them and the actual valve and grooved track it moves in with plumbers grease; then reassembled. Works great; very easy and smooth. Been working great for the 2 weeks since I fixed it. Now, it makes my grey valve feels difficult, so I plan to repeat on this one.

Like you, I thought it was the cable and maybe toilet paper causing the very stiff valve operation and failure to seal. That was not the case - deformed gasket replacement and valve lubrication fixed the problem.

Do take Tank emptying/rinsing precautions before removing the valve

Good Luck!
