2005 ford buyback
Hi All,
After many problems with oil leaks in my engine finally four weeks ago I decided to go ahead with lemon law. Yesterday I got news that
Ford agreed to buyback or replaced my truck. Now I ma looking for a
new truck. I was looking at Dodge Mega and GMC. I was very surprised
with 13500 lbs towing for Dodge. I have problem with deciding between new ford or GMC. I know that you guys are driving many
different tv. Any suggestions?

I just purchased a 08 F-350 6.4L. It is a very strong truck and I am sure it will do the job but I am not impressed with the diesel.I had a 05 V-10 and thus far I would take it back. If the Dodge 6.7 Cummings had the configuration of truck that we needed I would have purchased the Dodge. We drove the Ford and Chevy Diesels extensively before buying and we noticed little difference between the ford and chevy Diesels. The Chevy is a more comfortable truck... My opinions and observations only..

I have always been a GM guy and after putting two Duramax diesels through the paces of towing loads exceeding 13,500 lbs regularly, I know the next truck will be another Duramax. I was looking at the King Ranch F350 but after driving one, in my opinion, the new 6.4L just cannot compete. And now hearing that Rich is unhappy with his new 6.4L I am sure the next one will be the Duramax.

I don't like is that funny looking exhaust pipe.

i think the big problem on richfaa truck is the snow plow package as it adds a lot of weight to the front and its to stiff a truck for what he wants , it should be plowing snow as its heave as a train and solid as steel but not comfortable as per my ford engineer ...

Jerzy54, GM just added more $ to the 07.5 rebate it is now 4500 or 5000. I just was told these prices tonight so I don't know which is accurate. Either way it is a great rebate for a great truck. MPG is good also. Dodge has the best mpg. I chose Chevy for the total package, engine, trans, MPG, ride & comforts, price. I'm sure you will have your own reasons for the final choice. These were mine.

Well you are right about the truck being stiff and the snow plow package is no doubt a factor not to mention the camper package.. the front suspension is awesome. I would not have ordered that package but this is the truck we found. It feels a lot better when the 3400 is attached. I was also running 70lbs of air all round and let the rear duallys down to 60 and it feels better. The Ford and GM are both good trucks and as I stated I noticed little difference in PERFORMANCE when test driving. IMO GM leans toward comfort in the suspension area and they defiantly have a better ride than the Ford..however..these are big trucks that pull big campers and I prefer a solid platform for the 3400....Just my opinion.

Fords 6.4 is the same engine as the 6.0. The only changes are the second turbo and some changes in the computer. I don't care what they say about it it needs more proof for me. I also feel sorry for the mechanic who has to work on one there is no room under the hood. I like the GMC but my brother-in law has one and his will not get the mileage that my Dodge will. I've been pushin a Cummins down the road for 34 years and I will take it over the rest. Just my .02 worth. Al

As I mentioned before I got impression that max. towing for Dodge is around 13500lbs. Is that right? I know that many of
you are pulling Montanas with Dodges. I would appreciate info on this subject.

If it was up to me I'd get a GM and not a Ford or Dodge but it ain't so I'll keep my opinion to myself.

I sure like my 2006 F-350 and what it can do when pull our 3400RL. I wouldn't trade it for nothing.

I would not have the GMC. I had a couple and they were always trouble. Just my opinion.
The Dodge 13500 is accurate but that is strange since Dodge went to a new very heavy frame and suspension parts too. Stronger transmission, automatic, and stronger new engine, 6.7 Cummins. The Dodge is what you see most commercial delivery men using to deliver from the factory to the dealer and some of those are very heavy trailers.
The design life stated for the Dodge is 350,000 miles and the Cummins people on their forum say 500,000 should be the minimum. The Ford and the Chevy and GMC have a design life of 250,000 miles.

I am begining to see the comments about the life of the engine before rebuild. My question is how many RV'ers you know who has over 250,000 miles on the od???
A big reason the RV transporters are using Dodge is because they are a little cheaper than Ford and GM....
Also I just can't understand why Ford designed a Trucks which has to have the Cab taken off to do any major repairs??? I understand that its very expensive to have this done.
I have always driven GMs. Love the Duramax/Allisons. GBY...

Just traded a Ford F250 PowerStroke(103,000 miles) in on a new Chev. Duramax/Allison....I can now listen to the radio when pulling. The Duramax is quiet and the Allison shifts very smooth.
Also had a GMC gasser with 52,000 miles and all that was ever done to it was LOF and a battery.
I don't know of many RV'ers pulling with 200,000 miles.
I'm just looking for the power, dependability, and being able to wave at the gassers on a steep hill as I pass them.

Just an update to this old post. Finally after many negotiations with Ford I have my new 2008 F250 Lariat CC short bed in my driveway.
All the negotiations were about extra equipment specially fifth wheel hitch. Ford agreed that I leave old hitch and bed liner on
the old truck and i can go ahead and get new hitch and a bed liner and they will reimburse me for all the cost.
As for the truck itself I am very impresed with interior and all options including a satelite radio. I have only about 100 miles on
the engine and only thing I can say abuot it that is supper quiet. Ride quality is much better then my old Ford. It will take some time to know
how it will pull my Monty. I am also keeping log of the fuel economy to compare this truck with ma old one.

That funny looking exhaust is to cool down the exhaust while driving if the motor goes into regen.
