Isn't it a shame that there are better (and probably more) engineers on the forum than in the factories? Bob

Just an idea for securing your spare tire. Last year while at Quartzite, in one of the big tents a vendor had a bunch of 15' by 3" cargo straps with the ratchet. This fits real nice around the spare time and the 2 cross members on my 2955RL. By strapping across the two top cross members (strap going front to back) you secure the spare tire and it's not going anywhere. Yet it is easy to remove the strap, and easy to see the ratchet and buckle when tightened on the back side of the tire.
At Quantzite, I think the strap was about $3.

I have only read my pal rogue's post, but here is how I did mine, actually using the ratchet straps.
I didn't want to lose that valuable Mission tire..........

I’ve been watching our spare ever since I heard about all of the problems that some of you had. When I took off the drain plug the other day winterizing, (yes winterizing Glenn! There’s that word again) I reached over to see how it was and everything seems to be snug-as-a-bug-in-a-rug.

I was checking my spare after hear about yours. My mounting plate has two adjustable flanges that keep the tire centered on the hanger. I can't slip off the hanger it they have adjusted it properly.
That being said I'll still put a lock on it as a saftey measure.

Buy a pickup truck spare tire cable lock and weave it over
the welded support for the trailers spare tire. They fit perfectly.
Holds the spare up and secured from theft.
They're available at most truck/4wd stores.
