Crazy weather/ what a difference a few months make

Last couple of years we have ranged from a drought status of severe to exceptional (worse rating) with area lakes unusable due to no water any where near boat ramps. True up until early this year. Now the lakes are not useable due to boat ramps and lake parks being under water. Lakes went from less than half full to many feet above conservation level. Weather guessers have had some chance of rain/storms almost every day in their forecast for the last 2 months or more, and still there for the next 7 days. And seems there are tornados hitting all around north TX about every other day the last couple of weeks. Fortunately most of those have not done wide spread damage, although unfortunately there have been a small number of deaths.

One extreme to another. But that seems to be the norm. A repeat of about 10 years ago, same sequence of events. At least the water restrictions have been lifted, and lawn watering is again permitted. If the yard ever dries out enough to water, that is.

We live on high enough ground not to have a flood problem. And the many tornados (up to 11 reported to have occured yesterday/last night in north TX) have mostly been in rural and less populated areas, and fortunately none in our immediate area. And few have been F3 or higher and have not stayed on the ground very long.

And snow in Nebraska? And in Little Rock last week?

Bizarre to say the least. After our record snowfall this past winter, I thought we would never dry out, but we did. And, the grass looks better than ever. Here's hoping things settle down for you people out in the mid-and southwest. Stay safe with all that unsettled weather you're getting out there.

It has been very strange and I feel for you with the tornados. Normal weather for us this time of year would be severe storms, but recently we've been getting late October or early November temps and flooding rains. 51 degrees this afternoon, cloudy and light rain. I don't think there is a normal anymore.

Gotta be careful with the news. Even national news can be suspect. A cpl of years back there was a report of "flooding in Houston". I called a buddy there and he said there was an issue at a cpl of intersections in downtown....but nothing widespread. No real damage to speak of. Sure enough one of the national news TV networks picked up the clips of intersections under water but reported "flooding in Houston".

We feel your pain....we are at our summer gig at Crazy Horse in Custer, SD and last week we had a blizzard drop almost 2 feet of snow on us and today we woke to another 6 inches....

And to think we were laughing at our friends in the northeast with all their snow storms while we were sitting in the desert in AZ!

Hope all our MOC friends in Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Kansas are safe with all those twisters out there....

As I was pumping diesel yesterday east of Amarillo, I am in a t shirt and shorts...it was 53f with a stiff wind. I'll take that over the ton of rain the prior night in ft smith area that had me standing in puddles and month to get ready to tow. Had some good tex-mex last night...was wearing long pants and jacket. John

Either we never had these types of weather extremes 40 years ago, or I just don't remember them. Makes you wonder what it will be like in another 40 years.

Still live in the same town I was born and raised in (69 yrs). Memory ain't what it used to be, but weather does sure seem different. NWS has confirmed 42 tornados in north TX this year (basically the large area surrounding DFW), mostly in the last month.
