Front Jacks Not Lifting Trl.

We have just started on a 4,000 mile trip and the second night out I went to unhook and when I tried to raise and unhook the trl. As it started to lift I heard a clicking noise and I saw the shaft and the entire mechanism jump but the trl. does not raise as it used to.
I have read different threads on this problem but have not had any luck on searching for some solutions.
I think there are some teeth that may have been stripped and this may be the cause for the failure for the front to raise.
Any advice as to a solution or how to correct this problem would be appreciated.
THANKS,
The Kountry Traveler

I have unhooked a couple of times but know when I am sliding under the pin I am lifting the unit more then I should. So far I have sprayed the fifth wheel with WD 40 to make it slide better.

I'm not an expert on this but it sounds to me like it could have stripped some of the gears in mechanism or you may have sheared a pin. I'm sure there will be someone along that has the exact answer for you on your problem. One other thing-- I would not recommend using WF-40 on spraying onto the legs or gears or even the hitch. WD-40 is petroleum based and will collect dirt and dust causing it to become gummy and/or sticky. I'd clean off that residue and if you spray it with anything, I'd use a spray white lithium grease or a silicone spray and possibly get yourself a pad that either fits on the hitch itself or on the king pin.

Teflon pad for pin. The jacks, well on our first trip out we had a similar experience. We took the caps off the tops of the jack legs and found that the jack shafts had broken where the shear pins go through them, both jacks. Repairman said he had never seen anything like it. I had one hydraulic jack with me, went Wally world and bought a second and used them sufficiently to get to ser. Not necessarily the same problem but worth a look.

H. John Kohl had a post previously regarding maintenance to the front jacks (I think it dealt with stripped gears, but not sure). It might help with the search anyway, seems like he had the whole process documented with photos. Here is a link to some of John's pics that I found with the search feature:

Hope this helps.
