No guns, no pets. We lock when we're leaving the campground.

When our dogs were alive, we never left them in the rv and we always lock. John

We lock the door when we leave. No pets. But make sure you lock the dead bolt. the master key will open the handle locks, but not the dead bolt. so there are thief's that can access if they have the master key. Usually the dealer has them but they are available for anyone to get. the salesman at the dealer is the one who told me about this.

I posted earlier I don't lock anything but it depends on where you are. At home I'm 4 tenths of a mile from a state road. When I'm in Wyoming I'm on BLM land miles from a road. It would take an act of God to find me. We will have 4 or more rifles valued at $5000 each and lots of cash but it doesn't matter. You can't find us. If I were in a camp ground I would certainly lock my camper. Might even have an armed guard watching it.

Yes, even though the rig is on a permanent site and I know most of the folks around, I don't know the intentions of visitors. I also think that insurance claims for stolen items, think wallet and stuff, would be more expeditiously handled if they had to break in vice just walk in.

Like Lynwood I need to clarify. First dogs are not left for long periods in RV. But there are times when we might visit a neighbor, attend BBQ and dogs are not appropriate to bring along. Second we do lock when we leave area or park with our dogs. My point was and for clarification is as follows. RVs are easily broken into by various methods. RVs locks suck and therefore I replaced mind. I also have a security system and camera system. You break in I got you! I have same system on truck! All internet based! Last tweaked don't care. They don't even check to see it unlocked. Further your insurance covers you, even if unlocked. They don't and in most every state, cannot use " left unlocked " as excuse not to pay a claim!

Yes we lock and don't travel with pets. I'll take some hits on this, but if I see a camper on fire I will not go into it to rescue any pets!
I would not enter either, but I would open the door to give them the opportunity to escape. My dogs know the way out.

I travel with my Bassett Hound so I too leave the doors unlocked, but where we differ, I will go into a burning trailer to save not only pet but someone my be stuck inside. Call me what you want but it would be the right thing to try to do!

Hi

There are only 3 or 4 keys that fit the dead bolt locks. The probability of your key working in the Montana sitting next to yours is very high. The salesman that sold us our trailer demonstrated this to us.

I installed a stainless lock on the main door that is commonly used on boats and locks that take a round key on the other doors except the propane tank doors.

However because of the construction of these trailers it is quite easy to gain entrance with a sharp instrument like a hatchet or axe.

So the only thing my expensive locks accomplish is to make my insurance company happy and leaves them with no excuse to deny a claim.
