Lackland AFB FamCamp

Anyone ever stay at Lackland AFB Famcamp in Texas? We're headed that way in a few weeks and wanted to know any thoughts about the CG. The biggest challenge we have found with military base campgrounds is figuring out where the commercial gate is for entry and what their hours are...that seems to always add a little flavor to our arrivals.

We stayed at Ft. Sam Houston. Quite nice, still a bit "new" so the trees, etc. are not very shady. Didn't visit Lackland.

We always call the installation and talk to the FAMCAMP folks re the entry gate problem. I also often call the Security folks directly for their input. Be sure to have a recent copy of the Mil RV Campground book. It almost always lists the ph #s for both the FAMCAMP and the Security Police. I usually call Security prior to, and again on the day of, travel to make sure of the entry instructions.

Patodonn,
Great advise. We went to Patrick AFB this past May as we did last year. They had changed their gate structure and we narrowly made it through the new maze. Half way in and stopping at the gate the guards who did not wave us off before I started in told me I was to now use the "new truck" gate they built. (Yes I stopped and looked for a signal before starting into their maze.) Last year the gate I was using was the RV designated gate. After putting my drivers steering tire up on the curb of their guard shack the truck and trailer completed the maze without a scratch. Yes I used the truck exit on departure.
Good luck and safe towing.
