Propane

My Montana has dual tanks. The dealer told me to never remove just one tank because gas can bleed from the disconnected line. Does someone make a plastic plug to screw into the type 1 connector to prevent such?

I don't think that's true. I sit one tank by curb for propane man to fill and I haven't seen or heard any sign of leaking

Once you flip the lever on the regulator so that it points to the non-empty tank, you are free to remove the empty tank and take it to be refilled. The disconnected hose will *NOT* leak propane. The dealer does not know what he is talking about.

Ask that 'person' how you're supposed to refill a tank if you can't remove it. Even if you could find a propane place that would try refilling one still in the trailer, they'd still have to disconnect the line. Stupid dealer.

Have had mine off for hours taking it to get filled with no leaking. Sounds like a dealer to avoid.

I agree with the others, I have had one tank off for several hours when I went someplace to fill it.

I have had one connecting hose, the one with the large green screw on, go bad and the check valve didn't work, permitting propane to leak, albeit slowly. After replacing, no other problems and like the above posters, leave one tank open with the changeover valve pointed to the open tank.

This goes to prove that in many cases that the people who sell Montana's are the last to rely on for factual information about the rig. The whole purpose of the changeover valve is so one tank can be removed to fill while the other delivers propane. Our horse trailer had two tanks with a similar valve as on the Montana. We've had one tank removed for sometimes a week at a time without ever having an issue with the remaining tank leaking propane. Just make sure that the regulator valve is fully pointed toward the remaining tank.

As long as the rotary knob on top of the propane tank is closed tight, there should be no need for an additional cover. I have mostly the black passive ones that just slip on to the threads of the POL fitting but these only protect the threads from damage. Years ago I purchased one screw on style plastic one that screw into the POL fitting in the opposite direction, but it doesn't take long for them to be cross-threaded, then you'll wish you had the over-the-thread style. If you thought about it, with the propane being under such high pressure and if the strong valve on the top of the tank does not hold in the propane, then these cheaper plastic covers won't either.

I am with the majority (or the consensus) in that this dealer is a moron that wants to sell some of those overpriced plastic connectors that screw on in the opposite direction and become a problem later because of it. If you believe this dealer, he probably makes a mint off the ignorant selling these things.

The same goes for the cutoff at the autoswitching regulator. If the propane is not running, there is an automatic shutoff that should prevent propane gas from escaping from a disconnected line. If you hear hissing, then it has failed, and the regulator will need replacing (don't forget to shut off the propane supply or it can not only stink up the area, the vapor is very explosive.

Totally agree!
I would be cautious about other things your dealer told you.
Suggest you validate via post here on the MOC. Plenty of owners here that have been "round the horn".

This is something, if Keystone really cared about their dealer network, that should be investigated by them. If the dealer's sales people don't know even the simple things about these rigs, maybe they should be serving up slurpees instead. This dealer should be on the list of dealers to avoid. Hopefully this dealer is told about this bogus information given to a customer, but they probably don't care--the sales person did make the sale.

It seems to me if that were true you would never have only one empty tank because the full tank would force propane into the empty tank. True?

I wouldn't even buy a spray can of WD-40 from that dealer!

If you want to assure yourself that there are no propane leaks you can get one of those little spray bottles and fill it with soapy water. Spray it on the area to be checked. If there is a leak it will blow bubbles. As for your dealer, we're with Orv.

Read Orv's post. I wouldn't buy WD-40 from them either. If you listen to that dealer then the spray cans would probably leak even when you stop pushing down on the spray button. LOL.

Like DonandBonnie states... a soapy solution at the propane fittings is the safest way to confirm no leaks.
