Damaged Gelcoat
While doing routine maintenance on the Montana, I noticed a piece of the gelcoat missing. It looks to be about the size of a quarter, and is probably the result of a flying rock. It is located along the curb side above the ref vent. Anyone aware of a good way to patch this?
Thanks

I have a similar problem on our camper that appeared after a parking mishap. I was asking if there was anything to patch it with at a dealership and I was told that I should take it to a body shop to get it fixed properly. My problem may be a little deeper than what you have described. It was more like a gouge in the fiberglass.

If you want to do it yourself, consult a web-site such as overtons.com or westmarine.com for kits to repair both fiberglass and gelcoat. These are common boat repairs. If you want to have someone else do the work, I would check with your local marine dealer who should be able to do the repairs as well. Hope this helps.

I have had to do a few "quarter sized" divots on my boat and they end up being saucer sized divots by the time I get them patched. It is a project but with care and the proper tools and kit you can hardly tell there was any damage. I would suggest a good marine body shop, less headache and faster work... Dave

Thanks for the response! I am limited on marine suppliers and whether they do body repair I don't know but will check it out.

Farmhawk,
If those Marine dealers don't do the repairs themselves, they probably will know the name of someone who does. When Tana was backed into something (NOT OUR DOING), a marine dealer who could not do the work due to the temps (fall - - cold) knew the name of an excellent fiberglass repair shop.
Remember, many boats are made of fiberglass, and people have run them into docks on occassion.
Or look for a Corvette repair shop, they can fix fiberglass too!
Good luck finding help.

True, but as soon as you mention the word "Corvette" the price automatically goes up 50%!
