Great deal for the trailer tool list

I just got back from Harbor Freight and the are going to have this 1/2" drive tork wrench on sale for less than 10.00 would be good for setting the tork on those Monty tires.

I've got one works great.

HF is going all out to increase their business. They now have ads in RV, boat, car, etc magazines. Most include a 20% off any one item coupon and a coupon for a free (no purch nec) LED flash light.

How high in torque did it go? I couldn't find it (or read it) in the ad.

Check your torque requirements on the trailer and TV to make sure they will be covered. Typical Monty is 110-120 ft/lbs and typical truck is around 150 ft/lbs. I ended up with too small of a wrench by not checking by wrongly assuming all similar priced wrenches were the same.

Here you go Art I went on line and looked it up for you.

Harbor Freight Tools offers the Pittsburgh 1/2"-Drive Click-Stop Torque Wrench for $9.99 plus $6.99 for shipping. That's $10 off and one of the lowest total prices we could find for such a wrench. Sales tax is added where applicable. It features a torque range of 20- to 150-foot-lbs.

This was a on line price with S&H not over the counter.

I neglected to mention I now have two of that same rating. One is in the trailer and one is in the TV. I probably paid a little more than that price but don't remember where. I am pretty much all torque wrenched to the gills.

I am finding that if I start installing improved hitch or suspension parts for the Monty, I might have to look for 200-300 ft/lb wrenches. It just never ends.

Personally I do not think I would trust a torque wrench that was so cheap. Do they include a notice that they are tested at that rating and that they should be checked periodically for accurracy. I used torque wrenches professionally and they were checked for accurance periodicaly. That reminds me I need to have mine checked. JMO.

I'm with John here ... speaking from calibration experience ... although seemingly handy, "clicker " torque wrenches are notoriously low on accuracy / repeatability even in the $70 - $100 range. The 4% accuracy in the add might be somewhat ... well you know the old adage ... you get what you pay for. However, torquing wheel lugs in comparison to engine assembly may not need be so demanding. I'm with John 100%! Too much riding (pun intended) on your safety here to trust something from the same country that gave us formaldehyde dry wall and lead based painted kids toys.

These torque wrenches are made in China, and you all know what we think of stuff from China. I would just as well spend a little more money and buy tools that are made in the good old USA.

I would not trust a $10.00 torque wrench.

My reasoning: I had one of the front wheels come off my truck while towing. Over torqued? Under torqued? I'll never know. Luckily we were less than 100 yards from home and only going about 15 MPH.

I re-torque before every trip, and especially after going to the tire shop!

I have that exact torque wrench and purchased it a couple of years ago. It comes in it's own carrying case as well. For the naysayers, I have a hard time shelling out any more money for a tool that is used occassionally. It serves it's purpose for me well, and as far as I can tell seems to work well. I base this on my observation that I have not had any wheels fly off of the rig!! To each his own and all opinions should be treated as such, including mine!! I have bought many items at Harbor Freight, and even though they are primarily made in China, I have yet to find fault with the quality. (I may be cheap, I also have a Kipor generator!!)

I'll jump on the bandwagon with Bingo! I have the same one as Bingo and have not had a problem with it at all! All you have to do is remember to ZERO it out before storing and all is well! I've checked mine with that of an "expensive" unit and they both clicked at the same torque setting. No problems here! I also have many of the Harbor Freight tools that are in the Monte and in my traveling toolbox. They may have been made in China but Harbor Freight backs them if something happens like breaking or whatever. On the more expensive things I buy there, I purchase the extended warranty and have not had a problem with any of them yet! Ya, some of the items in the store are real low quality but I'm not going to pay high dollars for something I might use once or twice a year at the most. I'll keep going back to HF and using their products.

Hi gang,
Here is a link to Dexter's axle recommendations for wheel torque on steel wheels. I couldn't find the one for aluminum wheels.
http://dexteraxle.com/i/u/1080235/f/...Tires_2-08.pdf
I check the torque on my 09 3605RL to 90 ft/lbs, frequently.

For information purposes, the aluminum rims should be torqued to 120 ft.lbs.

Uh oh....I carry a 4 star lug wrench and use it all the time. The blood vein in my forehead swells at about 150 ft. lbs. (I figger) on that particular wrench (there are different size and each requires different pressure to get 150 lbs.). I this too sloppy for lugs nuts on ol' monty? I'm open to hearing the truth and will consider mending my ways if folks with wisdom on this subject tell me I'm being dangerous. Whaddy think?

To each in thier own oppinion, but I was in the military aircraft maint. business for 20 years and if I did not do things by the book with properly maintained tools, ther is the posibility I would not be here to talk about it. You would have a few harch words for your dealer if they were sloppy. JMO.
