Look up Burnet, TX ..Inks Lake. We camped for 2 months at an out of the way CG, but it was worth it. Lots of country feeling, pine trees, etc. hand feed deer, vulture turkeys etc. Right on water. Less than 200 mo. (I think we paid 189.) Really eerie road to get there (all paved)winds down from highway. Not a whole lot of to do. Fish, shopping is Burnet or Marble Falls (less than 40 miles away). We left there for Del Rio.....I needed more shopping, places to eat, etc.

Look up Kerrville and Fredricksburg if you are going to to be in the Texas hill country.
Not that there is anything wrong with Inks Lake in Burnet.

For the Winter Texans traveling south on Hwy. 281, there is a new Exxon truck stop just south of Blanco, Texas.

You might want to check out this RV park in Marble Falls. This is a very well maintained park. You can fish from the bank, and it has wonderful swimming.

We like it so much we are going to be there the first weekend in November. It is about an hour from where we live.

Try "By the River RV Campground" in Kerrville it is a nice park - wide spaces if you don't want to be against the creek. We stayed there 3 weeks last November/December.
It is nice and quiet.

Fredericksburg is a terrific place in and of itself. And to base out of for day trips. Here's some ideas of things to see and do...

Click on the Our RV Travels link below. Then click on 2004 Postcards. Start with the January 18th postcard for the Austin area, including up and around Inks Lake and Fredericksburg. The areas to see around Fredericksburg start with the February 9th postcard. We were in Austin for a month and Fredericksburg for two weeks and want to go back.
