Slide carpet wet along edges

Our Montana 34rl and our Cougar 237 both have the same issue. The slide carpet gets wet when it rains (slides out). The slides on both units appear to be the same construction. It appears that water from the slide roof drips down the outside of end wall and goes under to the floor of the slide. The slide has what appears to be vinyl (black) coating. It seems the water "wicks" up to the carpet then just spreads out traveling inward depending on the amount of rain. Anyone have a similar situation, are there any known fixes? Note, we are very sensitive regarding level. We set up very level all the time.

We had that issue on a bedroom slide years ago. Thought it was coming from where you describe, but in reality it was the little four inch corner caps needed caulking.

Also check the 4" strip that runs lengthwise along the outside bottom of the slide.

If the caulking separates there you will have the same water problem.

Slide toppers can help with slide leaks, I know it is an expensive fix, but It will also keep the slide roof clean and help your seals last longer.

I had the same issue. Defective caulking was the reason. Totally removed all caulking from both bottom corner pieces and top of bottom cap piece, wiped all affected surfaces with rubbing alcohol and re-caulked. Solved issue and hasn't leaked again in 4 years.

Over time, we had the same problem, all slide end wall locations. In all cases, it turned out to be the window flange seal, the butyl caulking material between the window flange and the outside wall surface had shrunk to allow a very small gap where the water would enter the inside of the wall and run down and wick under to the carpet. After the third window leaked like this, I used black silicone caulking to seal around every window frame on the rig and don't see anymore leaks.

Thank you for the reply. BUT I don't get it. There is a seal attached to the coach that runs the length of the slide, is this the one you are referring to? I see no caulk on the seal anywhere. If the caulk you refer to is on the top of the seal it will be difficult to repair. Please clarify.

I plan to add the topper to the Cougar as we travel in it. But I still hope to locate and repair the leak. The Montana has 4 slides, that may be beyond my budget. Just gott'a figure it out. Thank you for the reply.

Thank you. I will check this out and hope it is the answer as it appears to be the simplest answer so far.

This sounds like a major undertaking. I hope to find the answer in one of the easier to repair options given. Although I will look closely at the window caulking as this could be serious in other leak situations. I will check it out and post the road to the solution as it happens. Be patient as the Mrs. and I are on a long trip currently in Canada at the GREAT CANADIAN BARN DANCE great fun place, Check it out on the web. I will follow up in the near or maybe not so near future. Thank you for sharing.
