I5 to 101 Central California

I'm heading north on I5 and want to cut over to 101 before San Jose. Is Hwy 152 from Los Banos to Gilroy ok for towing or is there a better route?

Thanks!

Ken

Ken,
Highway 152 is the route we take when going to San Jose. It is a busy road with a few twists and turns and a couple of grades. But nothing to cause any major problems. It brings you out at Gilroy. Good place to purchase garlic! Have a good trip. Dennis

My years of traveling the same areas and that was the choice for us and while it has more traffic than most other diversions and there are some hills, it's not bad enough not to use. It allows as much time on the flatter I-5 before heading west to San Jose.

There will be some hills on Hwy 101 after you merge onto that, but it beats using I-580 to the north then coming south. It also beats the 198 at Coalinga and the 46/41 at Lost Hills. I have done them all with a rig. Hwy 101 is very hilly where I-5 is much flatter so when towing I prefer flatter routes.
