Survey on wintering in Quartzsite Az.
I thought it would be fun to see how many Montana folks travel to Quartzsite for the winter. My parents live in Quartzsite year round so I have a place to stay when I get in that area. It is handy to have a his Jeep for searching for gold mines and exploring the desert. Also like the fact he has a 30'x36' woodworking shop for indoor projects.
I saw somewhere in a post about a Rally going on there this winter,so thought it might be fun to get some feedback on your style of camping in this area.
Do up spend time on BLM land or RV park?
When do you head south to area?
Also post any more ideas that you find interesting in the area to do.
We will spend most of our winters in the Az. area when we retire as we will have place to park 5th wheel. But we will spend time taking trips from this winter home base.
Thanks for any feedback

Larry in Olympia,
I am the wagonmaster this year for the upcoming MOC Quartzsite rally.
The rally will be January 16-24, but there will be several MOC members there well before the 16th.
It is all dry camping (boondocking) on BLM land. Many of us try to stay a month or longer; several just a few days, and most stay the length of the rally.
Details for this rally will be posted on this forum soon; so, we hope that you as a new member will come join us!...some of the best people you would ever want to meet.

Larry, there is a lot of jeeping and quad riding in the area. A lot of people also do a lot of fishing in the Colorado River which isn't far from Quartzsite. We have never attended the Q rally but have stopped by to visit. It looks like a lot of fun and really good people. We stay a little farther north in a park and usually get there by the 1st of November.

We usually spend the month of January at Quartzsite camping on BLM land. We like to do rock hounding, GeoCaching, exploring old mines, cabins and landmarks, combing through all the vendor booths, buying beading supplies, meeting old and new friends, and fine dining. All of which are readily available in Quartzsite, except for the fine dining component. That we have to supply ourselves.

We also go to Q-site but stay in another area a bit closer to the RV show.

But we usually go visiting the group.

Carl,
For the dining component you just go to the Grub Stake for the fish platter or hot wings. What more could you ask for. Looking forward to another relaxing month in Quartzsite.
We hope to spend a month in Quartzsite then on to Yuma and Tucson.
