FLORIDA, Ocala - Silver River State Park

One of the newest, if not THE newest Florida State Parks/Campgrounds. Two sets of double loops make up the campgrounds. The majority of the sites are pull-throughs all of which are VERY generously sized in both length and width. Most are nicely shaded in the picnic, grill, fire ring area for a portion of the day if not most of the day. A couple are full sun almost all day. ALL are flat and while not solid surface (as in concrete or black top) they are well packed and top coated with a light surface of a very small gravel (looks to be lime stone). Eight foot long picnic tables with attached six foot long benches; fire ring, grill, water and electric (predominantly 30 amp with some 50 amp); nice restrooms/bath house with deep sink and washer and dryer. WONDERFUL staff and the last Saturday of each month they have a guided tour of the reproduction cracker village. There is a very nice (albeit small) museum and museum shop about the area and anthropological finds (BIG skeletons of mammoths and sharks). They have recently started renting kyaks as the Silver River (go figure) is accessible by foot path. They allow an hour for pick up and return for which you don't pay the hourly rate.

When we first came here NO ONE knew about this gem of a park. Now, however, the secret is out and the park is very popular. You can make reservations 11 months in advance via Reserve America.

I don't think there is a Monty made that would not be able to be accommodated in more than one site here. The size of the sites are provided on the Reserve America site for ease of ensuring the site will accommodate your rig.

I highly recommend this lovely state park (right next to Silver Springs the head of the river and a well known tourist location in Florida.

Hugh,

What site number have you reserved? If you know it I'll check it out (even take a photo) and let you know the "lay of the land."

Robin, I will be calling you tomorrow. Loof forward to seeing you.

Hugh, we will be sure to hook up with you when you are here. We will be in Tampa on the 13th and 14th but back late evening on the 14th. Can't wait to see you and Pat. You will just miss Glen and Judy and their grandson. They are here now but will be leaving on Sunday. Daniel has school on Tuesday.

Gee it's nice to see so many Moc'ers in Florida this year.

Good to meet you and Doug Robin. The party was fun although there where a few still nursing a headache. One of our neighbors that has a Big Sky will be joining the MOC shortly. They were thrilled to hear about the club. They live in Vero Beach but keep the BS here on the lot they bought.

Hugh and Pat,

SIte 52 is a great spot. The shower house/restrooms are next to the site (but there is a LARGE patch of green/open space between it and the site. There is a great amount of privacy and the spot is FLAT. One of the couples with whom we were camping were at that spot. The layout is with the rig parallel to the road and the curb side of the rig facing in towards the fire ring and picnic table (8' long table 6' long benches). You can get fire wood for a donation at the entrance to the park...though they don't seem to have large supplies. You can get fire wood at the local grocery store (Publix) or there is a stand near the WalMart (Super). I am sure Helen and Bill can fill you in on any specifics as to shopping/supplies you might need, but everything is very convenient to the park. Oh, if you use the dump station on the way out and use the side that is to the right as you come out of the park, beware that the hose leaks and you might get an unexpected shower if you don't pay attention! :-)

Theres also a few places along Hwy 40 East you can get fire wood. Id say its less than 10 miles from the camp. It will be oak and hickory.
