Brake Drum Temps
Anyone care to throw out an acceptable temperature for the Monty brake drums after let's say 50 miles using the brakes at several stop lights.

After several repeated stops they can reach 200 - 250 plus degrees F. I found this out by using an infared heat gun last summer while checking for a dragging brake. Max temp depends on how long you wait for the heat to radiate out and saturate the drum. A single easy stop along the road produces about 160 - 180+F on a hot summer day.

Is that a regular summer day, or a Kansas summer day?

After a run on the interstate and stopping at a rest area mine are around 110 to 115 degrees even at the CG after pulling in to setup they will be less than 150. I have them set on boost3 and 10 on my prodigy. And I have alot better brakes since changing to the self ajusting 2 yrs ago. JMHO

I've not seen a source of self adjusting trailer brakes except the disc brake options. Where did you get them? It would be nice to have them in adjustment all the time.

One thing that we try to do when stopped is to let off the brake so that the pads are not in contact with the drum. This was drummed into us at the fall rally by representatives from Dexter. If we need to stay stopped, and we are relatively level, I'll put the truck in Park. Of course, we can't always do this but we do try.
