Are slide toppers worth it

Are slide toppers worth the install and upkeep?

In my opinion it depends on how much time you spend under trees etc. Since both of our home bases are in the open and we spend much of our time in the Southwest we didn't add them to our new rig even though we had them on the old. Also, both Kansas and NM have a lot of wind for them to make noise. In addition, some folks have mentioneed problems with them when their slides come in on the models that have the new much larger slides like our 3720.

Hi

The only thing I can say about them is the only one I had installed failed in about 2 years.

However there are a number of owners that won’t go without them.

I just sweep the top of the slides off periodically then bring them in about half way and clean them in the area that you can’t get to when they are out.

Over a 10 year period we have had them on 2 different Montanas and they will also be on the next. We spend most of our time (full timing) East of the Mississippi.

That was one thing we wanted on our Montana when we got it in 2008. Have not regretted it at all. We camp in State Parks, so there are trees, which have leaves. In my opinion I would not get a new camper without them. I'm getting to Old to climb up on the roof to clean slides off.

Wouldn't be with out toppers. There are down side to them if it is very windy. They will flap and make a lot of noise. Also if it rains the topper will form a tub and hold water. The toppers will get very stained and it is a little trouble keeping them clean.

Camping in a full sun site in 95 degree temperature I believe it helps a little not having the sun directly on top of the slide. I doubt there is much insulation in walls and ceiling of slides.

I have never had a slide topper malfunction though I did replace fabric after about five years.

We just got them on our new Monty this summer, the very first time we have ever had them. So far, so good, although we have not been out a lot. It was very windy one time but we did not notice any noise that many people speak of. Perhaps it was our orientation in relation to the wind at the time.

We liked ours originally because we spent our time in the east under trees. But after 3 months out west in the spring we got tired of the noise of flapping toppers. Also that 3 months did major damage to the toppers. The constant flapping wore out the large slides' topper fabric.

Would not go with out them we have a lot of pine trees here in the great north west you could spend all day just cleaning off the roof and slides.

I like them. They keep the sun and rain off of the top of the slides.
