Walleye Fishing next year
We are planning a trip with our son and his family next June. He would like to go Walleye fishing in either Nebraska, North Dakota, or Minesota ( unless a better place pops up ), but as of now we are clueless as to where to go. I have looked at a few places but nothing nailed down yet. Any suggestions that I could check out would be helpful. Would nead a campground close by with full hookups. They will be coming up from Iowa.

We have fished Lake Sharpe and Lake Francis Case in South Dakota the last three years. It's basically the Missouri River at I-90. Good quantities but size has been a little tough to come by. Lots of campgrounds in the area. Fished lake Sacajawea in North Dakota several years ago. It was a year when the water was way low and the fishing was tough. Still want to go back there now that they have water as its' reputation is very good. Stayed at a North Dakota State Park right on the lake outside of Peck City. Jim

We fished on Little Vermillion north of Red Lake, ON, Canada (fly-in) last year and caught Walleye every afternoon at the narrows/river for our dinner, sizes were good for fillets, and the eagles would land on the rocks and clean up for us every day.

We just spent a week at Cass Lake in Minnesota. I have a great guide there and if you get the right time of the spring you can do the crawler bite during the day and then the crank bait bite after sundown. Plus, Star Island in Cass Lake is the only Island in a lake with a lake. Lake Windigo on Star Island has Northern, blue gill, bass and I believe crappie. We caught eight different species while there.

Best Campground next to the walleye in SD
If you happen to get near South Dakota around the middle of May to the middle of June, check out Lake Francis Case for some of the best walleye fishing in the west central states. A favorite of ours for over 30 years, the SD State Campground "Northpoint Recreation Area" is second to none. Electric only. Great shower facilities. Spectacular views. $21 a night plus SD sticker.

I'm from Fort Dodge Iowa and when i was around 15 we used to go to Leach Lake in Minnesota. Walleye and Northern Pike. Used Bookers bait in a worm. Not sure that stuff is still around LOL. Just make sure you don't go during May Fly season. There were millions of them when we were there one year.
