Newbie RVer

Just won the auction on EBAY for a Montana 3280RL, (not new, but it looks in superb shape). It's in Raleigh, NC. and we're in New Braunfels, TX. Hopefully, I can find a transporter to pick it up for us. We're building a new house and CAN'T be away from the contactors that long or I would drive and get it.
I still need to get a hitch. Any suggestions?
We have a 2004 F-350 Crew Cab 4X4 to do the pulling.
We're really looking forward to doing some travelling now that we're retired.
This is a great forum and I'm learning a lot.

Wow, that's quite a purchase on eBay! I did see on RVtrader.com that there was a topic named "RV transport" You might try that source although I don't know anything about it. Welcome to the forum!

Well, congrats!!! Nothing like getting a new (to you) pull toy. You have plenty of truck. On the hitch, it depends on whether you have a long box or a short box. If a long box, a rather ordinary hitch will do the job. If a short box, you may want to consider a slider hitch. I have the husky, a plain Jane hitch that is quite adequate. Others will have to inform you on the up scale hitches.

Dianna and I lived in New Braunfels for several years. She taught school in the NBISD while I continued my education at Southwest Texas. We thoroughly enjoyed the city.

I have popped the phrases “Montana” and “fifth wheel” into the ebay search engine several times and have always been amazed to see it find something. There is seemingly NO end to what is listed there! Let us know how this goes for you.

You do not mention if your truck has a short or long bed. If it is the former, I would suggest the PullRite SuperGlide. It is the most pricey hitch on the market, but it is also the best for people with short bed trucks. You NEVER have to worry about the front of your 5er “kissing” the cab of your truck as the hitch slides automatically to provide clearance space. For me, it was money extremely well spent.

SEE, I told you I'm a newbie! ( Just kidding). My truck is a long bed F-350 6.0 Diesel Crew Cab 4X4 FX.
I just talked to the man that sold the Montana and we're going to have everything completed by his credit union and our bank tomorrow by wire transfer.
Needless to say he was worried about getting scammed.
I have sold a few hotrods on the internet as long as the transaction is completed by bank wire transfer. Sometimes the bank will accept the title and overnite it to the buyer.
I just did this with a 65 427 S/C Shelby Cobra to Scottsdale, AZ. and everything went perfect.

Welcome to the forum, congrats on the purchase, and just have to comment, that I LOVE that saying, about skidding into the grave! One of my goals, to skid, in about 50 years! HAHA!

Welcome and congratulations on acquiring the Montana. You'll find folks here on the forum to be most helpful if you have questions, and there is a wealth of information here.

We also have the 3280RL and have enjoyed it since we bought it in 2002. I've read that some people have had some minor problems with the rig,we have been very lucky I guess it's everything they said it would be.

Hope to see you around the Hill Country. We have a 3475RL that I tow with a F350 diesel, single wheel, crew cab. I have a Reese 16K hitch. Everything works great! I bet your will also.

Congratulations on the Montana and the Cobra (that has me drooling!). I've seen new Montanas auctioned on ebay also.

Our first Montana was a 2880RL, similar in layout, on a smaller scale, to the 3280RL. It's a good layout in my opinion. Hope you enjoy it.
