Shower Door Shattered

I have a 2016 3160RL. While cleaning the inside of the coach getting ready to go home after a week of camping, my DW forgot to latch the shower doors. Subsequently one of the three sliding shower doors shattered on the way home. What a mess. Anyway I was wondering if anyone had experienced the same problem and, if so where did you find a replacement door? How hard to install? I couldn’t find a brand or model on the shower itself. I’m sure I can probably order one from my dealer (at a premium of course) but I would rather try to find one elsewhere. Any help would be appreciated.

If the frame is still good, I'd take it to a glass company and see if they can't replace the glass.

You could try trekwood.com or elk mountain rv.

Terry,

We had one break also. Was replaced by CW - the panel are fairly easy to get out once you take the screws out of the top bar. They are pricey - if I had to pay for it would try a glass dealer or even replace with plexiglass.

Ours was shattered too when we first toured our 374fl.
Dealer had a glass company replace the panel.
It was the panel closest to the faucets.
Problem was, that no wrinkled glass could be located, and frosted piece was used.
Matters not, as it's just a shower door, and it serves the same purpose as oem krinkle.

When ours broke, i took the whole set up out and installed a curved shower curtain rod and curtain. you'd be surprised how much bigger it made the shower.

Thanks for all the reply’s. Based on what I’m hearing, I’m going to a local glass dealer and see if I can match the glass or get close. Quick question, does anyone know if the original glass is glued into the upper hanger? I haven’t tried to clean the old glass chards out yet. Looks like there may be a screw in the middle of the hanger at the top that goes through the glass but I wouldn’t think that would be enough to support the weight since the bottom bracket just floats.

There is a small screw in the top bracket that appears to go thru the glass, just to hold it in place. You have to show that to a local glass dealer because you can't drill a hole after the glass is tempered.

We had a shower door shatter in another rv and took it to a glass shop for a replacement. Much cheaper than going through a dealership

Avoided similar issue 2015 HC. Replaced doors with shower curtain, gained many pounds of cargo capacity and peace of mind.

I wouldn't use plexiglass. It cracks too easily. I would use Lexan.

We had a similar issue with our brand new 3120. In our case it wasn't a case of not locking it but a poor design by Montana. It was built with the latch on the end toward the rear of the coach with a very flimsy latch. On the first trip and probably the first stop the latch broke and the door slammed forward. The only sure fix (on the road) was a strip of wood in the rail, the same as you might use in a sliding door at home. You might try a glass shop for a new glass.

We have a 2016 3160RL with a shattered shower door. Your story is very familiar...LOL.
We took it to our local glass company and they have ordered a replacement for the shattered section. In our rig the glass is "rain glass."

Paul...you indicated that you went to a local glass dealer and ordered a duplicate piece of shower door glass. I went to a local glass dealer as well but the “rain” pattern was not available to be made in the same thickness. It was either too thin or too thick compared to the original. Was yours the exact thickness or did you use a different thickness?

We have tied a piece of skinny rope around the latch to keep latch from un-latching when traveling. Thank goodness no broken glass. The screw in the middle glass came loose and locked all 3 shower doors together. CW fixed it.

broken glass

I don't trust that latch. Opened doors completely, drilled a small hole through the upper header on the frame and bought a small pin with a little stop to keep it from falling out, to fit through the hole. Problem solved. Did same thing to sliding closet doors, slid them completely closed ,drilled a 1/4" hole through both doors at the bottom and use a dowel rod to hold them in place. My arthritic hands could never get that dumb plastic strip to snap.

They have not indicated the type, style, and thickness of the glass is a concern. It will take 2-5 days for the glass to be manufactured and shipped, which should be sometime this week.
