Just curious

In light of the recent problem I had with the control component failing, it got me wondering about something. I know I can manually retract and/or extend the landing gear and stabilizers but what about the slides? Is there a way to manually put the sides in if/when the hydraulic system fails?

I would assume that if there is a hydraulic leak this may not work, however.

You should have gotten a brochure in your owners package from Lippert which provides instructions on the manual operation of the slides. Best to get a flexible drive for that purpose.

I hope you have better luck with you slides than I did. I had to back my pick up up to the slide then push on it with my feet till I got it to go in, all the while my wife was on the switch inside. I replaced the old pump, $1200 later still wouldn't work. I took off the belly pan, pulled the hydraulic cylinder and had it rebuilt, $150. Pulled the hoses and had them checked, nothing there. Finally put everything back together and it would work just enough that I could push it in the rest of the way by hand. Took that sucker down and traded it in. PS I did tell them about my problem before I traded.

Any idea how often the hydraulic pumps fail on Montana RVs?

I don't see any reason why the pumps should fail in this application any more than other ones. Keeping them full of the proper transmission fluid at all times, operating them with sufficient battery so as not to overload the motors and they should last a long time.

I have had the same system on dump trailers and others and really had very little problem with them. I hope this will be true on the use on the Montana, and I am not aware of major amount of reports of problems. Personally I am not too worried about the pumps but have some concern about the poor hoses used. Just MHO.
