Is my tire pregnant!

So, there I was yesterday afternoon setting up at our Winchester, Va site (after four days in PA without elec)...I was in a hurry to get the elec turned on in order to get the heat running, but still took some time to check out "things" as I made my way around the Montana. That is when I saw this baseball size "growth" the the side wall of one of my Marathon tires. Not sure what to make of it, I took a chance and poked it with my finger. It felt soft and spongy. At that point I was thinking how lucky we were that this tire did not explode on the trip...and where would I be able to get a replacement. As it turns out, a dealer in nearby Stephens City, Va had a replacement. If you are in the area and need tires (including the G614), Donald Rice Tire Co., Inc would be a good place to visit...good service and fair prices.

Glad to hear you made it safely and needless to say, so glad you caught the Marathon before it completed it's normal life cycle

That's what you get for parking too close to the Michelin Man...

Glad to hear you caught it in time and found a good dealer.

If your replacement was another Marathon, hope it holds up for you.

That was my question to... What did you replace it with, and did you just replace the 1 or all of them?

Not ready to shell out 2k yet for the G614s, so I had them replace the bad tire with the same brand...I know, but for now that's where we are.

There are several light truck tires that will work well on our rigs. Many of us have them and are happy with them.

Good timing on the bad tire. That's what it looks like right before the tire explodes. You were lucky. I've caught tires that looked like that but I can also say I've been affected by tire explosions too either from a bubble or from separation of the tread.

I still do have Marathons since at the time they were a better alternative to the other brand tire bombs, but the knowledge I've gained from the MOC and other sources has made me a much smarter owner. You gotta do what you can, but do something rather than leave it alone.

Agree, Art. Found it sad that I was replacing a tire that the face of the tire (the tread) looked virtually like a new tire!!

So, there I was at Camping World to have the Montana serviced upon return from our annual trip north. Told that the service would likely take a while so I went home only to receive a call from CW: "One of your tires is coming apart"...the good news is it was not the one recently replaced (and, of course, it did not come apart while going down the road)...the bad news is that it became obvious that now was the time to try the G614s, which are not cheap! Guess that's my Christmas present....

I also, reccomend another brand. Cheaper and probably better. JMHO backed by a bad experience with the famous G614, which I will never buy again.

OZZ, don't even go there! Don't know if my heart can stand any more "good news!"

If you had Marathons on before then LT's would probably be just fine.....

Provided they had adequate load rating...but I have already paid for the 614s, so that's that!

Certainly glad you caught it. When I had the same problem I had at least two tires that were bad at the same time. It might be a good idea to check all of them real good!

I'm a G614 believer. Going on 4 years and the only problem was one that went bad this summer with my bent axle.

Michael and Camilla, did your Marathon look something like our Marathon from several years ago?
