I used a 6 foot level on my front AC, which is the highest point.
Then I measured from the ground to the bottom of the level. Problem solved and accurate.

That is exactly how I measured mine. I also measured straight down from there to the top of the propane compartment. I wrote the total measurement in the inside of the propane compartment door for future reference.
