reclaimed space above generator storage
anyone reclaim/use the space above the generator storage compartment?
seems to be a lot of usable space there if used right. have to access
it thru the battery door but doable.

Those of us whose rigs didn't have the generator prep installed have an open space to use there. I've got my battery bank, inverter and solar controllers in that space and mounted on that wall.

We seem to have worked and reworked every available space until we have run out of space. For some reason we have never had enough outside storage space, pack rats I guess!

I use that location for our water hoses. Freshwater hoses that are all white and a gray hose that I use for hookup to black tank flush at times. It is usable space.

We have the on-board generator installed and as mentioned store our hoses on top of the generator box. Always worried about heat build up when the generator is running but have seen no adverse effects to the hoses.

I found a storage bin that would fit up there and attached it to the top of the generator box (that was fun getting up there enough to install a couple of self drilling screws). Use it to store spare water hose, extension cord, and such that we carry but don't use or need often.

I built a storage shelf across two thirds of that area that stops just short of the hydraulic pump and the rotating bar for the legs. Deep enough for a row of plastic storage boxes and storage for a lot of odds and ends. Also put in a couple of led light fixtures so I can see what I am doing when searching for things in that area.

Thanks for the tip. Never considered that space before, but I can think of several uses for it now.

I question if that box is needed anymore. When those were used you also had a vent in the generator door. Now with the new style generators they draw the air from below and blow the hot air back down below plus they are inclosed and insulated. When my generator run for long periods of time you can put your hand on the unit and it is just warm and not hot. I also put water hoses up there and have never had a problem.

i wasn't planning on putting a generator in the generator box. was going to put in some 1/2 or 3/4 wood for a base and put a slide for a tool box there plus store maybe the Yamaha 2000 generator along side it the put in a swing up door in the base with a piano hinge to access under the base to maybe store my sewer/water hoses after a cut in an access door. should be great usable space when done.

I have the generator box without the generator. I put a floor in mine and store little used tools in there. I carry a Honda 2000 and other stuff in ine main part of the genbox.
