generator transfer switch
New 2012 Big Sky has an Onan 5500 something keeps tripping I beleive at the transfer switch. I cannot find the switch it sounds by the trip noise it is located behind or under the fuse panel. Does any one know where or what may be causing this and how to access it??

What conditions make it trip?
Try removing all of the load from the Gen, see if it trips then.
If not, turn on one load at a time until it trips, then see why that load trips it. (Short, or whatever...)
Let us know.

On mine the factory installed two buttons in a 4"x 4" box next to the generator not far from the transfer switch. You need to push the button which is a reset. Hope this helps.

I found out from the dealer the transfer switch is behind the panel in the outside stoarage area. He thinks it is a loose connection. I am going to take the panel off later today and do a little snooping around. I can't beleive there would be a reset button behind that panel that is more or less unaccessable. It will trip without a load, with a load or with just a light load.

If this is a new 2012, why don't you have the dealer fix it?

Does sound like a bad..loose connection if it trips with no load.

OK, removed the first panel from slide through storage area. I found that the connections were good at the transfer switch. Cranked the generator and measured AC power from genset to relay and only had 120vac. Only one leg was hot. Traced the SO Cable to a 4"square j box. mounted on the ceiling of the stoarage area. This is a jbox for splicing the cable. All splices were made with standard NEC wire nuts sized correctly. However the splice of the one dead wire was improperly made. As the installer screwed the wirenut on the 2 wires only a single thread of the stranded wire caught. Thus the reason when they powered up it ran just long enough to pass the electrical test, then later burned the single thread of the stranded wire. I properly mated the two wires and screwed the wirenut back on and all is well!
