Bastrop, TX

What a neat little place. We had hopped to see Myrna and Bob (Imp) before they left here but we were too late. Well we wanted to see the town anyway. It is the second oldest town in Texas and has done a wondrful job of mixing the old with the new. We spent most of our time in Old Town and walking along the Colorado River but on our way out of town we found a Starbucks that even Myrna and Bob have not seen. It just opened up last Friday and I had one of the best Mocha Frapp. I have ever had. Must be cuz it was so new. I will post pictures a little later.

Wish you could have been here Bob an Myrna.

Helen, Bastrop is a pretty lil town. we stopped there last jan. 2006, stayed at the "best campground in Texas" as their advertisment, lol!! nice river to just sit and watch. Nancy and I been so many places I cant remember without looking in my log book, but I think thats where Tex Ritters museum is, for I seen the ad in the campground office and decided to stay a couple days longer. We really enjoyed that.

I have to jump in here to say that Tex Ritter is from Carthage, Texas up here in the northeast section of the state. There is also a "Country Music Hall of Fame" in Carthage, county seat of Panola County. Carthage is also the home of Jim Reeves, another country singer.

Bastrop is also noted for the "lost pines of Texas" separated by considerable distance from the pine forests of far east Texas. The Bastrop State Park is located in the pines and is one of our favorite places to stay.

Sorry we missed you Helen and Bill. We are currently in Deming, NM for the night and spent the afternoon/evening with Gene & Shirley Schaeffer and their friends Mike & Charlie. What fun. We were so busy talking that we didn't play MT. Oh well, we will be with Judy & Glen on Friday and we can get a game in then.... See you next time around.

Myrna and Bob, MT sounds great for Friday. We're experiencing symptoms of withdrawal since we left our neighbors in Phoenix. Glad to hear that you had a good time with Gene and Shirley. See you in a couple of days!

Did you stay in Bastrop State Park? We overnighted there and found it a beautiful park. Also, it's where we first met members Charlie and Cruzin2. And Imp and Trebor joined us for dinner, as well. Where are you two headed next?

We were staying in Austin, Steve, and just did a day trip over to see where Myrna and Bob spent their winter. We were glad that we did. It really is a town full of history.

Right now we are in Fredericksburg for the next couple of weeks. We have some of our Escapee friends here from Kansas that also have a Montana.

Next week we hope to meet OntMont, Padredw and Country Girl. We are really looking forward to that.

We are traveling around Texas for the month of April.
