Brake Controller Problems???

My Brake Controller all ways show's n.c Even when the truck is off and the keys not in the ignition. When I connect the trailer it still shows n.c Meaning not connected correct? The trailer pulls fine but seams to hop? bounce? when stopping. I can turn the dial up all the way and the brakes grab and the trailer wont move. I slowly back it off to a point where the trailer moves but I can stop easy, But still have the bounce? Any suggestions?

Check your brake controller safety cable on the hitch to see if has been pulled out somehow...I had mine come out backing into a large garage to get some decals replaced. I didn't notice until I pulled the trailer out of the garage...

If you break away switch is ok, considering changing your controller. I installed a Max Brake Controller and it is by far the best controller I have ever owned!

George,
I would think that you should NOT be seeing (nc). Sounds like something has gotten connected incorrectly or their is a "short" somewhere in the system. I cannot help you regarding the 'bounce'.

The only experience I've had with the 'emergency brake' on the trailer is that when the switch is triggered the trailer comes to a stop! And it stops very quickly! A former MOC member had her switch activate as she was traveling about 40mph. The brakes activated and stopped her rig very quickly. Unfortunately she stopped right in the middle of her lane and could not get the brakes to release. After about an hour or so they finally released and she was able to continue. But to my knowledge there was no bounce involved afterwards.

But something definitely seems wrong. Good luck and please let us know when you find the fix. Thanks, Dennis.

Agree, that there is a short somewhere in the wiring

Safety cable is intact, and appears fine to me. I have another question when you guys open the door to your truck are there any lights on on the break controller? Or do they not come on until you turn on the key? Or is there all ways a light on?

I had the same type of problem but my n.c. would come and go. I found the problem when I did a repack of the drums. One if the wires near the brake pad had rubbed a spot and exposed some wire and I would get a short and the n.c. would show on the controller. I too though it was a bad controller and I did replace the controller. I think you need to pull the drums and look for a damaged wire.

Up Date........ Un plugged the controller and plugged it back in. The n.c. flashed about 6 times and then a single . showed up. I plugged the trailer in and the indicator showed a c. I unplugged the trailer and shut off the truck and only have the . on when the truck is off. I wonder if it's fixed?
