Not very happy with Keystone

We started our first extended trip with our new 3790 this week. After the first 11 hour day on the road I opened the sliding doors on the closet and found the clothes rod with our hanging clothes lying on the floor. The screws had pulled out from the wall. Keystone had attached the rod to a hollow wall (approximately 1/4 inch thick) with screws with no sort of backing. I can't imagine how they think a 46" clothes rod even partially full would hold up screwd into a hollow wall. Unbelievable.

I can't believe mine have not fallen like your's we have been over Alot of rough roads in the last year and a half and we are fulltimers and my wife has the hanger rod STUFFED to the Max but I have heard of your problem from another member that had that happen as well so I better reinforce mine before it all comes tumbling down

Not a new problem, not only did our pull out the rod bent in half. Replaced mine after the first outing with a real clothes rod and proper attachments. After that it's been fine for six years with full-timers clothes on it.

Common problem ours broke the first trip out on our 06 3400 like yours it was attached to the flimsy thin wall. Firmed it up with a 2x4 and no problem the next 6 years. Did not give it a chance to fail on our 13 3402 and firmed it up before we hung any clothing. Lwets hope that is the only problem you will have.

Same way the crown molding is attached, "NOT". They seem to think that the interior wall is a structural component. I just dropped my unit off again to get warranty work done twenty one months later. Thank god I was on the hot list.

That was the first thing to go wrong on our new 2014 within a week. I used real 1x3 oak boards to do repair. Stained them to match trim and dresser in bedroom. Like Dick I mounted a regular round wood rod and never had an issue again while full timing.

I think on some units they have a piece of 1x2 pine up inside the ceiling that those little screws go into, and then in some units they either forget to put that backing board in or they miss it with the clothes rod screws.

If you only have minor problems and your dealer has a good service department to fix them you are in luck.

I spent New Year’s weekend helping a couple that had purchased a very expensive new Thor class A motor home make it usable for the week end. The selling dealer hadn’t even service the generator.

Congrats on your 3790! We have had ours since last April and it's been in the shop a full third of the time we've had it. We've had no problems in the interior of the camper except with the wall that separates the love seat and kitchen. Ours came attached to the side wall beside the fridge and has pulled loose. I've looked at new ones on the lots and they are not attached as ours is. That is one of a short list of things that our unit left last Tuesday for going back to the factory in Indiana. Our biggest issue at first was the AC units not cooling the camper as they have no air flow through the unit, then came the front frame issue that I've documented in my thread "Unhappy Montana owner right now". I've spoken to Montana's upper management as they have now taken over my case and assure me that the unit will be repaired correctly.
This is a great floor plan which is why we fell in love with the unit.

The one thing I'd like to say to Keystone is more of a question. I would like to ask why it took from July until November to get a call from the factory? Even the dealer had tried but could not get past the service and warranty divisions.

I hope you get your issues with the unit resolved and I sincerely hope that it serves you well for many years to come. I'm not trying to throw off bad on your camper at all as I fully believe that each camper is different and that the ones made before and after mine may not have a problem at all. Just luck of the draw. But if you do have a problem, get on it right away as it make take a while if it has to go above your dealer.

Yes and were the rod holders not plastic as well? The rod itself is real thin and flimsy as well so before we head out with our new rig we will be replacing the rod and the holders although at this point I am not sure what is in the wall behind the holders for support.

How did you fix your's?

I cut 4 7" pieces of 1" x 6" stained to match the wood and put them on each side of wall with long screws. I had to remove short clothes rod in cabinet closet. I then bought new rod and hangers and attached to the 1" x 6".

I'm now thinking I should check out my clothes rod and how it is attached when she gets back home.

Yes that should be next on your list. We threw away the flimsy rod and plastic holders and went with heavier chrome rod with metal rod holders. Also added a centre support from the top down to the rod.

Certainly not much for backing in there.
