The big flush!
We've been using Angel Soft since we took posession of the Big Sky almost two months ago. With the recent discussions about the failure of Angel soft to break down in the tank we started to get concerned about a clogged black water tank. With the tank less than half full of black water we added fresh water until the tank was filled to the brim. We then opened the drain followed by turning on the tank spray for a little over an hour. When we finished we checked the tank level on the control panel and lo and behold it showed empty for the first time since we bought it.
Think we'll add the big flush to our preventative maintenance list to be done every three or four months.

One of the small items that Keystone Customer service fixed for us under warranty was that and I believe that's how they did it. The big issues weren't so easy and took several days.

Sometimes it helps to raise the nose of the trailer.

Don't know how much it means, but we have been using the liquid calgon, in addition to the RV packets from day one. That might make things slide better inside the tank.

We use Cascade packets that have Dawn dishwashing soap in them.

We use nothing except AquaKem and RV toilet paper, and have never had a clogged black tank issue,in all our years of ownership.

After I purchased a clear elbow I realized that the black tank wasn’t getting flushed as well as it should have been. I started at that point of flushing it out several times by filling the tank partially full and them dumping it until the liquid was coming out was clear. I don’t pay much attention to the level indicators as I don’t have much faith in them. This works for us and I haven’t had any problems. We do use chemicals where I believe it helps to keep the smell down.

I have for the last couple years been opening the black water tank with spray on and let it empty then open the bath room gray water with the black water valve open. This will run gray water into the black water tank and help clean it out. I only have to empty the black water tank about every other time.

This may be a technicality, but the sticker above my sprayer says do not use without the black tank valve open. I suspect its just a preventative measure to block black water from possibly backing up inside the coach.

Be very careful! If you have the sprayer on and the valve closed, excessive water volume can/will break your tank......and believe me, it is not a pleasant experience.
