ALERT! The price of fuel dropped
I am stunned. Gas and diesel in Seward dropped by $0.07 today. I was able to fill up my car (87 octane) with 12 gallons of gas for only $64.00. What a bargain!!!!!!! I guess this means the economy is improving?

You were lucky. I filled up with diesel today at $4.699 and on the return to the CG it had dropped to $4.599.
See, if I didn't have bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all!!!!

Gas dropped to $3.45 and Diesel to $4.43 a gallon. I almost did the happy dance in the parking lot of the gas station...but someone would take my man card away if that happened.

Davis, CA......Gas is $4.19, Diesel $4.84.
I'm going to take chances and fill up tomorrow, maybe it will drop a few more cents.

Okie Guy, Don't mess with that MAN CARD, you might give the rest of us a bad name...LOL
Strange though, when the diesel prices were going up we fueled up at every convenience to beat the next price increase, NOW we will be holding out to get the lowest possible price again. What a world we live in, I just hope I don't run out first!!!

I'm very glad to see it start dropping. However, I won't feel that I'm getting a bargain until it drops to about $2.00/gal or less. When the price started rising we didn't feel that $2.00/gal was a bargain did we?
The unfortunate thing is that I feel that a lot of damage has already been done due to the high cost of fuel. If it would drop significantly, I’m wondering if the economy would ever get back to normal; if there is a normal.

Bill,
I agree mucho damage has been done to the economy and our feelings towards it.
Will I ever be confident again about fuel prices, if I ever was. Nope.
Sad commentary, and true.

I also agree 100%. Things will not go back to the way they were. My feeling is that 2008 (maybe starting late 2007) will be recorded in history books as the beginning of the end for many things and the beginning of the beginning for many other things.
We Americans, and most other developed nations of the world, have been coasting along on the "same ole, same ole" too long. Even 9/11, as evil and as diabolical as it was, did not change society anywhere near what the events of current affairs (energy/housing/banking) are going to.
Most of our transportation infrastructure will rapidly change, beginning with the auto and airline industries. Our attitudes toward many things has also changed as a whole and our confidence in Congress, already at an astounding 15%(?) approval rating was not reinforced by watching them helplessly flap around in the wind while the American consumer was under the gun.
These next two years will be interesting...
If we can just convince those aliens - that the Apollo 14 astronaut claims are watching us - to let us in on the energy secrets...

Don't get excited and don't have a short memory.. Fuel today is still over 60% higher that is was ONE YEAR AGO TODAY. Matbe it is just me.....but that is not a good thing and does nothing to get me back on the road.

It is so good to see the prices come down even a little bit! But I'm with Rich on this. It hasn't come anywhere near to getting us back out on the road. And while I don't expect things to ever be like they were..... it would be very nice if they got a whole lot closer.
I am not optimistic about things improving but at the same time I am not overtly pessimistic. I just think we have had things our way for so long that it is going to take us awhile to adjust and accept our new place in our ever changing world. We must understand that as "good" as we are we are not the "only" society in the world. There are many others and we are one of many.
All we can do is hunker down and hold on tight. It is going to be a bumpy ride.

I arrived in Seward yesterday and diesel is $5.68 a gallon! That is the most expensive I have seen since Canada. Glad I got here after it went down 7 per gallon.

I just read an article (can't find it now) about how gas stations USED to raise prices like a rocket and drop them "like a feather". Now, however, gas station owners, severely hurt by a big drop in customers, and therefore a huge drop in inside sales, are very anxious to drop their prices ASAP. A different mindset.
I have seen it around here. Almost a contest - wouldn't really call it a "gas war" - to see who can be the first to lower their prices and get consumers to their station. A local station even lowered his gas price below his cost in order to be the first station in the area to drop below $4.00 (to $3.99). Everyone else was at $4.08. Word of mouth traveled fast and he had tons of customers. This is good news for us.

Carol,
Thank you. I've had a devil of a time getting my new picture hosting place to let me post pictures. Actually I think it was mostly "user error". But I finally got it.
I have no idea how long it will be before we can accept what is going on. We should have seen it coming but were blinded by our habits. Hopefully we have now "seen the light" and will correct the situation. But it is obviously going to be a very painful process!
Hang in there and we'll do the same. Hope to see you on down the road soon.
Dennis

Agree..We are not the only nation in the world. We are in a global economy. We must find alternative sources of energy. We can not consume energy at the rate we do now. We must become more dependent on energy produced in North America. Perhaps this horrible incident will wake us up. But I fear it will not..9/11 did not wake us up.
