Tana to the rescue

As some of you know, Al and I have had a rough summer. Now, lets start this out with the right mood. As bad as our summer has been, Abby sick, Lisa’s heart surgery, and a serious issue with the stick built, we are very blessed, Abby is fine, Lisa’s surgery and recovery could not have gone more smoothly, and the house will be fixed. We did not lose our home to flood nor tornado as many have in just the last 10 days or so. Now, a bit of the story:

The house has had the "smell" quite bad this summer, had some last year, but we thought it was the mouse stuff (another fine mess we had to clean up, ick). The house was really stinking, took days to air out, eyes burning, throat burning. After a lot of time (almost 3 months so far), we have found that we need a new roof and have to fix some dry rot. The smell has been determined to be wet building materials, apparently, they tell us, stuff like wet OSB board can put up quite the stink.

BUT!!!! TANA TO THE RESCUE!!! We moved into Tana on July 14th, for the duration, or until we have temps down to 0 degrees for 2 weeks (golly, goodness, heaven forbid). You all know our take on Tana, spending a day in her is twice blessed. Well, I am not sure what number we want to use now, but twice blessed just is not enough! Several times a day we say, oh, are we thankful for Tana, we are comfortable, and fairly relaxed, the dogs are safe, we are not having to find a place to move, with 4 yorks for the duration of this cleanup.

Short version: House is stinking, and Tana is our salvation, she comes to the rescue!

Tana’s rescue is the reason of this post, another way to use our units. We all use for camping, some of us live in them full time. Most of us have used as a back yard hotel more than once. We travel in them. They have been used as motel rooms while a loved one is hospitalized, some times right on the grounds of the hospital. Some have used them for living in while they are building a new stick built. And, I am sure there are others who have done the same as we are doing, living in them while repairing the ole stick built.

Tana to the rescue, but again! HIP HIP HOORAY

Let we hope for better things for you and Al. Our 3400 is along side the house with full hookup and we have stayed in it many times in both summer and winter here in Northern Ohio due to long term power outages. Crank up the generator and move in.We have been the only ones on the street with power and at times a refuge for others. Being a camper can be a very good thing..

Carol,
We're so glad "Tana" is working out for you guys. Living in it while escaping the bad situation in the house is such a blessing. It is amazing that compared to our past two fifth wheels, the Montana is by for the most comfortable. We were able to stay in ours in the yard while my son and family stayed in our house for more than a month. We were very comfortable. We may decide to do some remodeling next Spring, and will probably move back out there during the process.

Carol,

We have been in the middle of a heat wave here in Georgia. Of course, two weeks a ago the fan on our compressor went out. I found one at a local distributor but had to wait for it to come from the warehouse. We spent two days in our Monty in the drive way. Instead of toasting in the 100+ temperatures we were cool as a cucumber in the coach. Another good reason to have an RV. I hope you guys get the moisture issues resolved soon.

Carol, so glad that you and Al have your trailer to stay in while your house is being fixed. It is wonderful to have a second little house to live in and really enjoy it too. We have an all electric house and we have moved to the trailer when the power has failed in bad weather conditions. Keep us updated on the progress of the house...we will be eager to know when it is finished.

Sounds like things are turning for the better Carol. Only thing better than a second home is a second home ON WHEELS!

We have relied on our Monty many times to serve as an alternative. In fact - I think the new name for our Monty is PLAN-B!

We all use our units differently and the uses still amaze us to the flexibility available.

Hope the Fall is better for you, Carol and Al.

Carol and Al, So glad your house is being fixed. So nice to have a place to go when things happen.

We use our's when a realtor is showing our house. We go outside to the Monty and watch TV, play on computers and etc. Very comfortable. Otherwise we would just have to go someplace, if we didn't have a Monty.

These Montanas are mighty handy things to have around that's for sure, and so flexible.

Glad to see the shingles delivered no if they would just get busy and start nailing them up on that roof of yours.

We're thinking of you and sending positive energy.

Carol,
Glad to hear things are starting to look up for you both. A month before we put our house up for sale, we moved our Montana down the street to a RV park and moved into it. We did this so that after a day of "cleaning, packing, etc, etc, we could just go "home" and relax for the evening, that way we wouldn't be tempted to go back into the house and work more and wear ourselves out, if we had kept the Montana at the house, we know thats what would have happened. So, yup, it is a godsend!
Hope the fall brings you good days.

We understand real well what you mean by the "Tana to the rescue". We lost our water/sewer for two weeks while we were waiting to finish the addition to our house. We just moved to our camper for the duration. We didn't suffer! Love our unit. Glad things are working out for you two. God is so good!

Carol, so glad you had an alternative. Here is hoping you are hearing the pounding of hammers or air guns!! Hope it is back to normal before you leave for the winter...
Take care and God bless.

If any of you happen to be interested, I am posting photos of the project here:

http://picasaweb.google.com/lashbroo...MonaganRepairs

So, far, it is mostly roof stuff, but today they took the window out and are ripping into the dry wall and siding off on the outside, looking for dry rot. They are finding it, I'll post more photos later.

Carol been watching the photos and so sorry to see all of the problems with your beautiful home. Really glad to know you have the Montana for a temporary home. I am sure the "kids" are glad too. Keep us updated.

What a shame. Like you say for $10 worth of tar paper. Is there anyway you can sue the builder?

Sure hope this is all behind you soon and you get to relax in the RGV this winter.

My gosh, those pictures are just sickening. We hope things are moving along well now. The weather seems to be cooperating, (at least it is here, we assume you are having about the same weather).

Yep, so far, the weather is cooperating, and as you point out, pretty similar to yours.

Dennis and Sharon,

The house is 14 almost 15 years old. The builder skipped town about 10 years ago. Anybody wonder why??

Patty, thanks for your good thoughts, keep em coming, the real story behind the photos is even worse, hard to believe but true. Roller coasters ain't got NOTHIN on ole Carol & Al this summer!

I have no idea WHAT we would have done without Tana!! Our little haven.
