Power Surge Protector
Sorry to hear about you losing some of your electronics. We just got a new Montana 2955RL, and after reading some of the power problems owners have had, I decided to help prevent damage to our rig.
We just left Canada the end of October and stopped in Oregon (no sales tax) at the Camping World outlet in Wisonville, OR. Saved over $100 on their 50 amp power surge protector. it is a big piece of kit, but we know it will protect our electronics. I have made a clip to slip onto
the power cord and use a lock and 3 feet of chain to secure it to the outlet post. I trust
most campers, but at $300+ I don't want my new surge protector to "walk".

It's one of the best investment you can make,I learned the hard way.Don't forget when you first plug in the power it takes 2 min and about 15 seconds before you have power in the camper.

We finally bought one and now feel much better. Also, don't forget what garyka said about the delay. The first several times we set up with the unit, we were running around checking fuses and circuit breakers because we couldn't figure out why we would have no power and then it would "mysteriously" come on. Oh well, I'm not a brain surgeon just a happy RVer.

Yup, two things we thought were indispensable - a surge protector and a Pressure Pro System.

They are upgrading a power station just down the road from our C.G here in Florida. Our PT 50C has dropped us off the grid 3 times last week due to a detected " open ground" You did a good thing.

In our experience under normal circumstances loss of power for extended periods happens less and less anymore. There was a time when power outages were sort of normal at Campgrounds and a generator was necessary. However Campgrounds have been upgrading for years We have a generator and have never used it for a C.G power outage in over 3 years.

Can one of MOC experts tell me why this 50 amp surge protector is so cheap? What doesn't it have that the $300+ units have? Thanks

Thats because its only a surge protector and not an electrical management system, it does not monitor for over/under voltage, opens and so on. It is only a surge protector.

Thanks, I read the specs. It is the same old story, "you get what you pay for".
