VA State Parks, site says camper to long
I had some kin folks go to a nearby State Park to camp this weekend. The park online reservation system states site max limit is 35', however, they seen some larger 5th wheels ( over 35') in the campground. Does anyone have experience going to state parks where online reservations state max limit, but your camper has been over the limit?

I've seen lots of spots where's there's no way a 35' trailer would fit, as well as many where you could back in deeper than normal, and fit a longer than specified rig. If it's too far away to check in person than a phone call would be in order. The last thing you want is for someone to take the nose off your camper because you were sticking 2' out into the road!

Fairystone. They swore there were a handful of 40' in there. He said spot they were in was probably 60 ft long.

Often length limitations are driven by internal roads and ability to maneuver within the park rather than site size.

That's the problem with these newer Montana's. They are getting too big. We stayed at Good Life RV resort in Mesa Az. February and March recently and there was a 41 or 42 Montana there. It was the one with the front kitchen. It took the owner about 45 minutes to get backed in and he said he didn't know how he was going to get out when it came time to leave. Palm tree on one side and park model carport on other side. Most State parks were built long before these huge 5th wheels and over 40' motor homes. There are several parks that my 35' 5th wheel won't fit in, and we have to make reservations well in advance to get the proper length space to fit in.

We tend to stay away from State and Provincial parks for that reason. That and all the trees, which get in the way. We are quite happy with a parking lot for a site. But then, we don’t “camp”. It’s our hotel on wheels for traveling around.

We have done the same as sola123 in the past the hard part some times is getting the 5er in some of the tight sit's the roads are not always the wide when your are 50+ feet long!

We have stayed in some state parks where even my 34 footer was about as long as most sites would handle. And I have stayed at some that easily handled much longer RVs. And one in particular had some longer sites, but the road so narrow and the trees so close I had to barely creep thru carefully watching, and dodging, tree limbs. Would have been really hard for a longer trailer. You never know unless you have been there before, or know someone who has.
Of course if there is no enforcement there are always some who are going to go with a 40’ rig even though rules say 35’ max assuming they can fit somewhere. And then probably complain if they can’t.
