What does the plug in look like?

My electrician is making me a 75 foot cord to go from my 50 amp service at my house to the Monty, but he wants to know what the plug in looks like on the 2016-2017 Monty? Is it a female or male plug etc. My new 3820FK will be here in the next two weeks, and we are just trying to be ahead of the game here. If you have a picture of the plug in on the back of new Monty's, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Damned ... 75' ... you'd be money ahead to just have him run a permanent underground wire and a 50 amp pedestal on a post to where it is gonna sit. You're gonna need a forklift to just pack the thing if he sizes the wire correctly. I'd hate to leave that much copper just laying on top of the ground. The plug is a female shore power plug similar to what house boats are plugged in to at a marina. Sorry, I'm not bashful about my thinking.

Not a good picture, but this should be it: http://www.trekwood.com/products/512...e-Square-White
and what Diesel Guy said.

Yes, what diesel guy said AND I hope your electrician knows what he's doing and doesn't wire it like a 240 clothes dryer!

The one that comes with the unit is called the Anaconda. The one your electrician is talking about is the Loch Ness Monster. In the mountains, we use a heavy duty extension cord. 20 amp runs the fridge and lights. We don't worry about a/c when we're loading. Not knowing your neighborhood, but having a cable across the sidewalk could be an issue.

I know it will be heavy, but we will only be using it when we are gearing up for a trip. It will not bother the neighbors, because it will all be on my property, and there are no side walks in the mountains. So is the plug in on the back of the Monty a female or is it a male? Any pics of the actual plug in will be appreciated. Thanks

If you click on the link in my previous post you'll see it's a female.

I don't know that one person could lift a 75 foot cord. A pedestal is your best bet.

Why not just get a 50 foot extension cord. That way, you won't have to deal with all 75 feet in one coil. Use the cord that comes with the trailer along with the extension cord will work just fine.

The plug on the back of the Mony is a surface mounted male plug, your cord needs a female receptacle on it. The cord end is identified as a twist lock NEMA SS2 50R with a twist/screw on weather boot.

Here's a link to the plug type you have mounted on the Monty: https://www.amazon.com/ParkPower-635...50amp+RV+inlet

And here's a link to a pic of what your extension should look like ( only a bit shorter than yours! ): https://www.amazon.com/Camco-55552-S...+RV+inlet+plug

Hope this helps,
Dave

Hi

I use a 75 foot cord as well as 2 pedestals on my property.

You don’t need the expensive plug you are talking about for the cord.

Please stand by and in an hour or so when the sun come up I will get pictures of my cord for you.

Hi

I am in a hurry this morning so this may not be to professional but here it is any way.

Following are links to pictures I made this morning.

You will use the cord supplied with the trailer. Your extension cord will plug in to the end that you will plug into the pedestal at an RV park. The supply installed at your home will have the same receptacle that would be at the RV Park. So one end of your cord plugs into the wall in your house and the cord that came with the trailer plugs into the extension cord. I then use a portable progressive EMS between the extension cord and the cord to the trailer. The Progressive EMS will not tolerate even a heavy due unless it is hanging vertical. Any other position will result in water intrusion that is why it is hanging on that disused propane tank you see in the pictures.

One more recommendation Have your electrician open the ends of the cord that came with the trailer and make sure the clamp screws are tight on the wire ends. There have been several reported problems with the wire pulling out of the plugs on the ends of the cord supplied by Keystone.

Your electrician will recognize these plugs.

Sorry for the dirty trailer that should get corrected tomorrow.

Phil P

PS use the back arrow on the first picture to see them all. The rest of the album is just stuff I have loaded over the years.

Thanks, Dave and Bob, I like the idea of having only a 50 foot to add on to the 25 foot they give me. Weird how the post from Dick said it is a female, and the pic you show is a male on the back of the Monty?

As briefly mentioned earlier, be absolutely sure the electrician wires it as 50 amp for an RV and NOT 50 amp for a house dryer.

Your 50 amp circuit at the pedestal is the same as your 50 amp stove circuit and outlet in your house. The inlet plug on the trailer is a male plug that the female end of the power cord pugs into.

If your camper is not wired correctly you could get 220 votes and you will burn everything in it. Be sure you have 110 volts. Use a multimeter to ckeck BEFORE you hook up your camper.

The power cord provides 240 volts at 50 amps coming into the trailer that is split at the circuit breaker panel into two 120 volt legs.

Here is a good view of both ends of a 50 amp power cord.

Just tell him to make one 75' long with heavier wire.

Diesel guy is correct. I should not even ask, cause I have zero knowledge, but is there a loss of amperage based on length of cord? I would think a lot of heat would be generated as well. I recently ran power out to mine rig, using heavy gauge underground wire to a box with breakers. It was fairly inexpensive, less than a power cord I think! In had my 25 ft 50 amp cord stolen last year. 50 footer would be an expensive loss!
