I'm new to the site and was wondering if anyone could recommend a hitch for the back bumper to carry bikes.

We installed a Swagman two bike carrier to rear bumper on our 2015 Montana High Country 343rl. 30 lbs. capacity for each bike. Ordered from Amazon for a little less than $60.00. You need to get one that's suitable for your bikes.

My 2013 Mountaineer model 358RLT has a 4" square rear bumper.

I have the Swagman 2 bike rear carrier and love it. Can't believe I went through 35 years of camping with out a good bike carrier. Just be aware if you use the bumper mount the bumper may need to be reinforced.

We must have been entering at same time. My Swagman was more like $200. Mine is the type the wheels fit into a fixture and then a slide moves down to secure bikes.
The bike closest to camper may have to turn handle bar 90 degrees. Easy to do.

We also use the Swagman and it works great. Had a hitch receiver welded to the frame under the bumper for the swagman to slide into. Works great

Like others we have the Swagman 2 bike carrier mounted in the factory rear hitch purchased from Camping World for around $160 on sale. I did have to buy an 1 1/4" to 2" receiver adapter to fit in the smaller hitch when we bought the Montana. This is our 7th season using the Swagman with no problems. Tim

Or you can forget about the weak bouncy and wobbly rear 5th hitch and get a bolt on Draw-tite or Curt or Reese 2 inch front receiver hitch for your truck and then buy any carrier you want ,I carry a 220lb Scooter on my front truck hitch and carrier for 2 years now AND you can keep an eye on them when driving and it will be Rock Steady, Just another option for ya... http://www.realtruck.com/front-hitch...0/2006/?sort=6 ...Or you can buy them on Amazon,Ebay etc.... too

Husker92 I'll try to get a couple of pictures today and post them. Our previous 5th wheel had the rear bumper as well. There is a receiver adapter which clamps to the bumper that the bike rack slips into. It basically ads a 2" receiver type hitch to the bumper. There is some movement but we never experienced any trouble with it and traveled thousands of miles. Tim

Here is an old picture that I have of the bike rack mounted on previous 5er bumper. Not very good but sort of shows the bumper mount. I'll try to get better ones later on today.

We just returned from two months in Gulf Shores. Gulf Shores is about 250 miles south of home. When we go DW also takes her car. With DW following me see has commented several times that the bikes never move.

I purchased the swagman on recommendations from the above postings. Put it together tonight and that part is easy but have not put on the 5th wheels. Sounds like I may have to turn the handle bars so it won't rub or hit the ladder. Will have to look at the rear bumper on the High Country to make sure it can withstand the weight. The trailer is stored else where while I do the addition to my pole barn. From what read here the bumper should handle the weight? Hope I don't have to explore a front hitch on the truck. Great site for gathering info. Thanks

One other thing on this High Country the bumper doesn't stick out and the mount has to be put under the bumper. The previous owner has a receiver bolted on already but I thing the one that came with the bike appears to be sturdier. Hopefully I can a cable lock on it so the thieves don't help themselves.

Your right. The bike closest to RV has to have handle bars turned. With proper allen wrench about a two minute job.

Mike117 you could also install a hitch extender like the one in the link below. This would prevent you from having to adjust the handle bars on the bike. When my hitch was installed on my previous 5er with the rear bumper I didn't have to adjust anything on the bikes. You should be able to get one of the extenders at your local auto parts store or even Wal-Mart. Tim
