it was after dark and his spotter (spouse) did an excellent job of getting him aligned with the parking pad,. when she said "come on back', he thought... all was well, and he did not realize the trailer was already about 90 deg. to the truck.
So another way to think about it is that a slider in a 6.5' bed, gives you only four inches less cab to trailer clearance than a LWB truck. This is based on a Super-Glide's 14 inch rearward movement as it approaches the 90 deg position. To me, an auto-slider makes the SWB truck an even more ideal tow vehicle. You get almost the clearance of an eight foot bed, with a SWB-6.5' bed.
