Swith For Remote Changeover indicator

Somewhere on this site I saw a photo of a propane remote changeover indicator where a switch had been installed. The switch was used so the batteries wouldn't have to be removed when the monty was in storage. I am curious how the switch was installed. Can anyone help with this? I tried installing the switch on the red wire but that didn't seem to work.

Welcome to the Forum Ross,

That was mine. You have to intercept the circuit on one of the battery holders. I unsoldered one end, then added the switch between those points by soldering on some lead wires.

After talking with Marshal Gas on why they didn't put the switch in, they said the LED draws so little that the batteries would last over a year at continous flash, therefore it was unecessary. When I put a new indicator in our new 3400, I did not install the switch like we did in our old one. The batteries held up all year even while continously flashing in storage with the tanks off.

Unless you really have your heart set on doing it, the switch does not offer much savings in battteries and is a lot of work for little gain.

Thanks for the reply and information.

The one I had in my 2001 I pulled the batteries whenever we weren't using the rv as suggested on the cover. I remembered seeing the photo you had with a switch and decided to try one. Looks like the best thing is to do as you suggest and just change the batteries when they go dead. Again thanks for the info.

This is a great site.

Brad, I like your switch. I don't need it now since living in the Montana all the time means we want the indicator functional all the time. But back in our weekending days it would have been nice. Yes, the batteries last about a year of normal use, for us, but I don't think they will last that long if the light is flashing constantly while the rig is in storage. And when we next take the rig out for the weekend we'd not know those batteries are dead. I used to close off the propane bottles to make sure the light would still flash.
